Virginia Beach, Va.. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team fell 3-0 to 22nd ranked Batten University (Va.) before defeating Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday at the Marlins Invitational hosted by Batten University (Va.).

Batten University 3, UW-La Crosse 0 (25-15, 25-23, 26-24)
- Batten University started fast in set one as they built an early 9-3 lead and would cruise to a 25-15 win in set one. UWL would not get any closer than six points (21-15) in the opening set.
- With the score tied at six, UWL scored four of the next five points to take a 10-7 lead in the second set. The Marlins would tie it up at 12-12 on an Anna Moody kill before the Eagles scored three straight to lead 15-12. An Annie Werner kill followed by a service ace by Ali Dehnicke gave UWL a 20-17 lead. After UWL took a 23-20 lead on a Marlin hitting error, Batten scored five straight points to win set to 25-23.
- UWL opened the third set with a 9-1 run which included two kills from both Dehnicke and Grace Turlais. Batten would slowly chip away at their deficit and tie set three up at 15 on an Ava Baker kill. The two teams would then trade points until the Eagle broke a 22-22 tie on back-to-back kills from Werner and Sydney Marx to put UWL up 24-22. Two UWL hitting errors and two Moody Kills for the Marlins secured the 26-24 win for the Marlins.

- Dehnicke led the Eagles with 10 kills and three errors on 20 attempts for a . 350 hitting percentage.
- Izzy Reichert finished with eight assists while Megan Lund and Lexi Champeau each had seven assists.
- Defensively, Megan Jasperson finished with a team high 14 digs.
UW-La Crosse 3, Saint Joseph's College of Maine 0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-18)
- Two Grace Turlais kills and one each from Bella Kottke and Dehnicke helped the Eagles start set one with a 4-1 run. The Monks would take a 7-6 lead before the Eagles scored four straight to take a 10-7 lead. Leading 20-18, UWL scored five of the final six points to win set one 25-19.
- With the second set tied 9-9, UWL scored seven unanswered to lead 16-9. Jasperson would record two service aces to help spark the run. The Monks would cut their deficit to 19-15 after an Eagle service ace but that would be as close as the Monks would get as the Eagles scored six of the final seven points to take set two 25-16.
- Set three would start with back-to-back hitting errors for the Eagles; however, UWL scored 10 of the next 12 points to lead 10-3. UWL would not trail again as Saint Joseph's did not get closer than four points (17-13) the rest of the set.

- Grace Nommensen led the Eagles offense with eight kills.
- Four players finished with five kills including Marx, Dehnicke, Kottke and Jaiden Lee.
- Sydney Hoeft and Kailyn Kurth each finished with nine assists while Lund had six.
- Braylin Siverling led the Eagles with nine digs while Kurth and Kennedy Myers each added five digs.

- UWL will be off for 11 days before playing in the St. Mary's University (Minn.) triangular on September 16th. UWL opens up with St. Mary's University (Minn.) at 3 p.m. and then plays Luther College (Iowa) at 5 p.m.
