Volleyball Travels to UW-Platteville for WIAC Tournament

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team is set to travel to UW-Platteville Tuesday, November 11 in the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's).

THE BASICS
  • Game time: 7:00 pm
  • Location: Williams Fieldhouse, Platteville, Wis. 
  • Regular Season Match-ups: These two teams met back on September 17th for the first WIAC regular season game of the season. UW-Platteville defeated UW-La Crosse 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 27-25, 20-25, 16-14). In that matchup, Grace Nommensen led the Eagles with 13 kills and 18 digs while Megan Lund had a team high 22 assists and Taylor Larson finished with a match high 22 digs. Brooklyn Radecke led the Pioneers with 17 kills and 14 digs while Gracie Gibbens finished with 30 assists and Bria Johnston had 19 digs. 
  • Tournament Bracket/Seeds: The top six teams qualify for the WIAC tournament with the top two seeds earning a bye. UW-Oshkosh won the regular season title to earn the #1 seed while UW-Stout is the #2 seed. 
    • #6 UW-La Crosse @ #3 UW-Platteville
    • #5 UW-Stevens Points @ #4 UW-Whitewater
    • #1 UW-Oshkosh will host lowest the remaining seed in one semifinal while #2 UW-Eau Claire will host the highest remaining seed on Thursday night at 7:00 pm. 
    • The semifinal winners advance to the WIAC Championship game Saturday, November15 at the highest remaining seed.
  • WIAC Tournament Champion: The winner of the WIAC Championship earns an automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships.

FROM THE COURT
  • UW-Platteville - 18-11 overall and 4-3 in the WIAC
    • The Pioneers are led offensively by Kierney McDonald and Radecke. McDonald is averaging 3.27 kills per set and hitting .304 while Radecke is hitting .165 and is averaging 2.78 digs per set. 
    • Gibbens has been the top setter for the Pioneers as she is averaging 5.98 assists per set. 
    • Libero Kelsey Ewert leads the way defensively with 378 digs (3.74 digs per set) while Radecke has 301 digs (2.92 digs per set). 
    • As a team, the Pioneers are averaging 12.2 kills per set and hitting .186. 
    • Defensivley, the Pioneers are averaging 15.3 digs per set and 1.8 blocks per set. 
  • UW-La Crosse - 20-11 and 2-5 in the WIAC
    • Kayla Sexton has led the Eagles offense this season averaging 3.15 kills per set while Nommensen is second at 2.48 kills per set. 
    • Lund leads the way in the setting category as she is averaging 4.91 assists per set. Lund also has a team high 46 service aces.
    • Senior libero, Taylor Larson, leads the way with a team high 509 digs (4.35 digs per set). Earlier this year, Larson broke the 1,000 dig mark and now sits 11th on the all-time list with 1,216 digs. 
    • As a team, UWL is averaging 11.0 kills per set and is hitting .153 on the season. 
    • Defensively, the eagles are averaging 15.9 digs per set and 1.8 blocks per set.

WIAC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
  • The 2025 WIAC Tournament marks the 38th year of the WIAC holding the conference tournament. 
  • UWL is making its 30th overall appearance in the tournament and its first appearance since the 2021 season.
  • UWL is 28-32 all-time in the tournament while UW-Platteville is 28-30. The Pinoeers have won three (1992, 2005, 2010) WIAC Tournament titles while UWL has won two (2003, 2017).
