La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team extended its winning streak to four with an 8-0 victory over Bethel University (Minn.) Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
The Eagles improve to 12-1 while the Royals drop to 1-10-1. UWL is now 7-0 at home this season.Â
Ella Opie recorded one goal and one assist Wednesday night.
The eight goal margin of victory is the largest for UWL since an 8-0 victory over MSOE (Wis.) on October 21, 2018.
In the first meeting between the teams since 2015, UWL scored five first half goals.
Sera Speltz scored at 5:57 to get it started off a
Katelyn Studebaker assist. Speltz made it 2-0 at 6:45 on
Catherine Arnold's assist.
Studebaker extended the lead to 3-0 at 14:27 with
Monica Wawrzyn recording the assist.
Speltz tallied her third goal of the game at 25:42 for a 4-0 advantage on
Ella Opie's assist. The Eagles finished the first half scoring at 28:51 with a goal from
Jessica Stewart and
Kate Heiderscheit assist.
UWL recorded 23 shots in the first half. The Eagles had eight corner kicks.
Opie gave UWL a 6-0 lead at 49:08 on a Speltz assist and
Riley Veenendaal extended it to 7-0 at 55:49. Speltz and
Jillian Sawadski had assists.
Emily Pikarski finished the scoring at 75:05 off Alisa Erskine's assist.
UWL totaled 32 shots in the game, including 19 on goal. Veenendaal led the Eagles with seven shots with four on goal.
Kaitlyn Kurtz finished with five shots, four on goal, while Opie and Sawadski each had four shots. Opie recorded three shots on goal with Speltz finishing with three shots, all coming on goal.
Eleven players recorded a point for UWL. Speltz had eight points with three goals and two assists in her first start of the season. The eight points are tied for seventh in single-game school history.
Jennifer Tischaefer had a school record 12 points versus UW-Superior on September 6, 1997 and October 23, 1999.

Summer Nicolai and
Robin Blair combined for the shutout, UWL's ninth shutout of the season. Nicolai earned the win, playing the first half and finishing with two saves. Blair played the second half and registered four saves.
Bethel (Minn.) totaled nine shots with six on goal. Malia Beilby led the Royals with three shots, including one on goal.
Bethel (Minn.) had one corner kick.
Abby Wright took the loss, recording 11 saves while allowing seven goals. Â Â Autumn Maki had one save for the Royals.
UWL now leads the all-time series, 5-1, with Bethel (Minn.).
UWL returns to action Saturday, October 11 hosting UW-Eau Claire at 5 p.m.
