Box Score Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team fell, 9-3, to 19th-ranked UW-Stevens Point Thursday at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament (presented by Culver's) at the UW-Oshkosh Softball Park. The Eagles, seeded third for the tournament, drop to 24-18 on the season. The Pointers, ranked 19th on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top-25 Poll, improve to 32-5. UW-Stevens Point is the second-seed for the tournament.
UWL faces 12th-ranked UW-Oshkosh on Friday, May 10 at 11:30 a.m. in an elimination game. UW-Stevens Point advances in the winner's bracket and will take on UW-Whitewater at 2 p.m. Friday.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second Thursday.
Jordyn McCormack reached on a fielding error to lead-off the inning and went to second on an
Abbey Bosch sacrifice bunt.
Marissa Pease's single advanced McCormack to third. McCormack scored an unearned run as Pease was caught stealing.
UWL added a pair of runs in the top of the third.
Lindsay Steien reached on a UW-Stevens Point and moved to second on Howard's sacrifice bunt.
Cristin Casey walked and
Kyra Lard followed with a double to score Steien and Lard to give UWL a 3-0 lead.
UW-Stevens Point rallied for eight runs in the bottom of the third. Emmie Cibrario singled to start the inning and Jesse Klicker followed with a walk. Kaitlyn Roberts' delivered an RBI double to score Cibrario to make it 3-1. The Eagles retired the next two batters on fielder's choices at home, but Allie Meyers hit a single to score Sara Traxel to cut the lead to 3-2. Emma Stolzman's two-run single gave UW-Stevens Point a 4-3 lead and Cibrario added a two-run single of her own to make it 6-3. Klicker's two-run triple finished the scoring to give the Pointers an 8-3 advantage.
After the Eagles stranded a pair of runners in the top of the fourth, the Pointers extended their lead to 9-3 in the bottom of the fourth on Rachel Baker's solo home run.
Remington Stark (11-4) took the loss for UWL, pitching 0.2 of an inning, allowing six hits, eight runs and two walks.
Elise Weinzierl started for the Eagles, pitching 2.0 innings, allowing two hits with one strikeout.
Carmen Follette went 2.0 innings, allowing three hits and one run with one strikeout while
Brynne Bieri went 1.1 innings, allowing two walks while recording one strikeout.
UWL finished with five hits as Lard went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Morgan Harwood (14-1) earned the victory over UW-Stevens Point, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing three hits, three runs (none earned) and three walks with two strikeouts. Ashley Zygowski picked up her 15th save, going 3.0 innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out three.
The Pointers totaled 11 hits with Klicker, Meyers, Otto and Cibrario each finished with two. Klicker, Stolzman and Cibrario had two RBI while Baker and Cibrario each scored twice.
