Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team is in sixth-place after the second day of competition at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships Friday at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Amber Grosse placed 13th
in the heptathlon.
The Eagles have 11.5 team points. Loras College (Iowa) leads the team standings with 32.0 points. Massachusetts Institute of Technology is in second-place with 26.0 points and Central College (Iowa) third with 20.0. Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) and Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) are tied for fourth with 12.0. UWL is sixth with 11.5 while Brockport State University (N.Y.), Augustana College (Ill.) and Ursinus College (Pa.) are tied for seventh with 10.0. A total of 54 teams have scored points.
Coastal Carolina University (S.C.) and the Myrtle Beach Regional Sports Alliance are hosting the championships. This year marks the 42nd outdoor track & field championship in NCAA Division III history.
UWL has won four (1983, 1984, 2015, 2023) national championships in school history. The Eagles have recorded 31 top-10 finishes at the NCAA III Championships, including 19 in the top-four, in 41 appearances. Along with the four national titles, UWL has five (1986, 1993, 1997, 2021, 2022) runner-up finishes.
Izzy Carroll finished 10th in the shot put.
The Eagles'
Macie Todd earned her first career NCAA Divsion III All-America honor after tying for fifth (5-6) in the high jump on Friday.
UWL's
Amber Grosse finished in 13th-place in the heptathlon on Friday with 4,562 points. The heptathlon concluded with the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run. Grosse entered the day in 17th-place after Thursday's 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash.
In other field event finishes on Friday, the Eagles'
Izzy Carroll placed 10th (45-5) in the shot put. Her mark of 45-5 is a season-best. Carroll finished 18th (136-4) in the discus throw on Thursday and competes in the hammer throw on Saturday.
Lauren Jarrett qualified for
Saturday's 100-meter dash final.
In Friday's preliminary track events,
Lauren Jarrett and
Maddie Hannan both advanced to finals scheduled for Saturday. Jarrett had the top qualifying time (11.55) in the 100-meter dash while Hannan recorded the fourth-fastest time (2:10.49) in the 800-meter urn preliminaries. Jarrett will also compete in the 200-meter dash on Saturday.
UWL's
Makenna Zak failed to advance to Saturday's 100-meter dash final with a 16th-place finish (12.00) in the preliminaries.
Greta Koehler was 16th (2:12.94) in the 800-meter run preliminaries, but failed to qualify for the final.
Maddie Hannan recorded the
fourth-fastest time in the 800-meter run.
Hannah Holm was 12th (14.26) in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries, but failed to qualify for the finals.
