Fast First Quarter Leads to Home Win over Edgewood

Megan Maloney registered three goals Wednesday night.
Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team improve to 3-0 on the season with an 11-4 victory over Edgewood College (Wis.) Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles of Edgewood (Wis.) drop to 1-3 on the year.

UWL got off to a fast start on Wednesday, scoring five first period goals. Grace Willmott got the scoring started with a goal with 11:11 left in the first quarter. Ava Schiltz scored the game's next two goals for the Eagles, the first with 9:35 remaining an Angie Olla assist and the second with 7:06 left. Schiltz' first goal came a man-up. Megan Maloney extended the lead to 5-0 with a pair of goals, notching an unassisted goal with 2:57 left and a goal with :42 remaining on a Britta Nelson assist. 

Edgewood (Wis.) cut the halftime lead to 6-3 with three goals in the second quarter. Remma Raupp scored with 7:58 left to make it 5-1, but Willmott tallied her second goal for UWL with 7:01 remaining on Sydney Schmitz' assist. The Eagles of Edgewood (Wis.) scored the last two goals of the half. Lily Drinkwine scored with 6:19 remaining on a Rachel Unitan assist and Raupp scored her second goal of the game with 5:49 left off a Drinkwine assist. 

UWL notched the first two goals of the third quarter to make it 8-3. Schiltz scored with 11:11 left on a Willmott assist and Evie Brilz scored off Lydia Spencer's assist with 8:11 remaining. Raupp scored her third goal of the game for Edgewood (Wis.) to cut it 8-4 with 6:40 left, but Schiltz made it a five-goal lead with 2:33 remaining. 

Maloney tallied her third goal of the game for UWL with 12:51 left for a 10-4 advantage and Schiltz finished the scoring with her fifth goal with 5:13 remaining.

Abigale Furlano earned the win, finishing with eight saves.

UWL finished with 29 shots, including 19 on goal. Schiltz recorded five goals on eight shots while Maloney finished with three goals on five shots. Willmott had two goals on seven shots while adding one assist. Abigale Furlano earned the win in goal, registering eight saves. UWL finished with 30 ground balls in the game while causing 13 turnovers. Spencer led the Eagles with seven ground ball while Kaley Hendrick had a team-high three caused turnovers. 

Edgewood (Wis.) recorded 19 shots with 12 on goal. Raupp led the Eagles with three goals on eight shots. Alexis Vogt took the loss for Edgewood (Wis.), recording eight saves.

UWL returns to action Saturday, March 9 hosting The College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) at 1 p.m.
