Northfield, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country captured the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III North Regional Saturday morning at Bill Huyck Championship Course. The Eagles finished with 63 team points while St. Olaf College (Minn.) was second with 99 and Carleton College (Minn.) third with 114 points.
With the regional victory, UWL earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships scheduled for Saturday, November 23 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
It is UWL's third (2001, 2021, 2024) NCAA Division III Regional title in school history.
UW-Eau Claire placed fourth (118) with UW-Stout fifth (125). UW-Whitewater finished sixth (157), UW-Oshkosh seventh (186), Concordia University Wisconsin eighth (212), Lawrence University (Wis.) ninth (275) and The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) (328) to round-out the top-10. A total of 31 teams scored points.
Carleton (Minn.) served as host of the regional championships.
UWL had six runners place in the top-17 on Saturday with
Madelynn McIntyre leading the Eagles with a 10th-place finish, completing the 6,000-meter course in 22:23.0.
Mallory Reiser placed 11th (22:24.9) with
Katelyn Chadwick 12th (22:25.3).
Gwen Hinz finished 14th (22:33.3),
Sierra Rabe 16th (22:37.4) and
Brooklyn Luebke 17th (22:37.6).
McIntyre, Reiser, Chadwick, Hinz, Rabe and Luebke earned NCAA Division III All-North Region accolades with their top-35 finish.
UWL's
Lucy Duchac finished 41st (23:14.2).
Hannah Preisser of Carleton (Minn.) won the individual title (21:24.6). A total of 222 runners finished the race.
The NCAA Division III Championships are set for 10 a.m. (Central) on Saturday, November 23 at LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.
