Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country team captured its fifth consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) Saturday afternoon at XC Ranch at Moore's Field of Dreams.
The Eagles won their 14th league title in school history with 21 team points. UW-Eau Claire placed second with 63 points and UW-Whitewater third with 98. UW-River Falls was fourth (124) followed by UW-Stevens Point (140), UW-Oshkosh (144), UW-Stout (178) and UW-Platteville (189).
The 14 team titles are second in WIAC history. UW-Oshkosh owns a conference-best 16 championships.
UWL is sixth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III rankings distributed by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Eagles had 12 finishers in the top-19, including nine of top-12.
Brooklyn Luebke was second overall, finishing with a time of 21:28.1 on the 6,000-meter course.
Lily Higgins was third (21:28.8),
Lucy Duchac fourth (21:30.6) and
Annika Elliott fifth (21:39.1). Luebke finished 12th and Duchac 15th last season.
Milana Pisto placed seventh (21:46.1) on Saturday with
Julia Zalewski eighth (21:46.7),
Elizabeth Schwartz 10th (21:51.0),
Molly Novotny 11th (21:51.3) and
Ryana Mathis 12th (21:53.1).
UWL's
Becca Immer finished 15th (22:01.3),
Madison Twarling 16th (22:04.4) and
Mallory Reiser 19th (22:10.3) on Saturday. Reiser was 11th a year ago.
Molly Heidorn of UW-Eau Claire won this year's individual title (21:18.3). A total of 87 runners completed the race.
It is the eighth (2013-14, 2016, 2021-25) WIAC Championship under 14-year head coach
Derek Stanley. The Eagles have also finished second five times (2012, 2015, 2017-19) under Stanley's tutelage.
The top-seven runners in the 6,000-meter race earn All-WIAC first team recognition, while runners placing eight through 14 earn All-WIAC second team accolades. Individuals finishing 15 through 20 claim honorable mention laurels.
UWL returns to action Saturday, November 15 in the NCAA Division III North Regional at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wisconsin.
