Northfield, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country team opened its 2023 season placing second at the Carleton College (Minn.) Running of the Cows Saturday at Bill Huyck Championship Course. The Eagles finished with 48 team points. Carleton (Minn.) took the team title with 43 points. Minnesota State University Mankato was third (68), College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) fourth (120) and Bethel University (Minn.) fifth (161). A total of 16 teams competed.
UWL is ranked eighth in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top-30 Poll.
Maddie Hannan led the Eagles with a third-place finish Saturday, completing the 6,000-meter course in 22:02.80.
Katelyn Chadwick was seventh (22:30.70) and
Maddy Vantassel ninth (22:43.00) to record top-10 finishes.
Madelynn McIntyre was 13th (23:09.90) with
Gwen Hinz 16th (23:19.60). Others placing in the top-40 included Mallory Riser 22nd (23:41.40),
