Dillon, Moore and Maher Named to NJAC Academic Team

Pitman, N.J. - Three members of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's tennis team have been named to the 2022-23 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Academic Team, the league office announced. Seniors JT Dillon of Burr Ridge, Ill. (Lyons Township) and Alex Moore of Menomonee Falls (Hamilton) and sophomore Lincoln Maher of Owatonna, Minn. (H.S.) all earned the honor.

It is the third straight year Dillon and Moore were named to the NJAC All-Academic Team.

A computer science major, Dillon went 5-12 in singles play this year.

Moore, an accounting major at UWL, finished 6-15 in singles and 7-13 in doubles. He went 1-1 in singles in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships. Moore was named to the 2023 All-NJAC West Division Singles Team for the second straight season.

A political science major, Maher finished 9-13 in singles and 7-13 in doubles in 2022-23. He finished 2-1 in singles play in the Midwest Open.

UWL finished 7-12 in 2022-23.

A total of 1,202 student-athletes were named to the NJAC All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a minimum of 24 credits who has competed in a conference-sponsored sport while achieving a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20.

UWL joined the NJAC as an affiliate member in men's tennis at the beginning in the 2019-20 academic year with UW-Eau Claire, UW-Whitewater and the State University of New York at Oneonta.

Men's tennis returns to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship slate in 2024 after being discontinued in 1995.  The conference held its first league championship in 1955.  Programs scheduled to compete for the 2024 WIAC men's tennis title are league full-time members UWL, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater, along with affiliate members Ramapo College (N.J.), Rutgers University-Camden (N.J.), State University of New York-Oneonta and The College of New Jersey.  All eight schools have been competing under the direction of the NJAC.

Conference action will occur in the spring with teams being split into divisions for the regular season and playing a divisional schedule.  The two division winners will then meet for the WIAC tennis title.
