Billy Mayer of
Eden (Campbellsport) passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac from injuries due to a motorcycle accident. A four-year letter winner for the Eagles, Mayer finished 76-29 in his career from 2009-13 wrestling at 285-pounds.
He earned three National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-America awards, placing third in 2013, fifth in 2012 and sixth in 2011. He was second at the 2013 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. Mayer won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) title at the 2011 league championships and placed second in 2012.
UWL placed third at the 2011 NCAA Division III Championships and fourth in 2012 and 2013. The Eagles won the conference championship in 2010 and 2011 and finished second in 2012 and 2013.
Billy Mayer finished 76-29 in his UWL career.
A member of the 2012-13 WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll, Mayer earned his bachelor's degree from UWL in 2013 while majoring in sociology with a criminal justice minor.
Mayer placed second at the UW-Oshkosh Dan Gable Open and Cornell College (Iowa) Matman Invitational as a freshman at UWL. He finished third at the Wheaton College (Ill.) Pete Willson Invitational in 2012 and second in 2011.

Dave Malecek. "Billy was a gentle giant as he was a dominate three-time All-America at heavyweight here at UWL yet he was so soft spoken and had an infectious laugh that the team and coaches loved. Billy was a team captain and always there for his teammates and that was very evident throughout his career. The entire UWL wrestling team and family will miss and always remember him."
Mayer was a four-year letter winner in wrestling, three in football and two in baseball at Campbellsport High School. Mayer won the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) state title as a senior finishing with a 38-1 record. He placed second in his junior season with a 34-5 overall record. Mayer won three individual conference championships and was Campbellsport's team MVP in his sophomore, junior and senior years. He finished 110-14 in his high school career.
Along with his wrestling accolades, Mayer was an all-conference selection in football at fullback and defensive end. He was Campbellsport's MVP as a junior and senior.
