Box Score 2 Tucson, Ariz. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team earned two wins on Tuesday as they defeated Dickinson College (Pa.) 11-2 in 5 innings and Webster University (Mo.) 6-3. The Eagles are now 7-5 overall.
In the win against Dickinson, UWL took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Kyra Lard reached on an error and later scored on an RBI single from Abby Bosch. Then in the top of the second inning, the Eagles scored four runs on three hits and an error.
Madi O'Brien drove in a run with a single, Lard scored two with a double and
Nicole Zoellner walked to score a run to highlight the second inning for the Eagles.
UWL would take a 9-0 lead in the third inning as they scored four more runs on three hits.
Isabel Queenan led off the third with a single and advanced to second when O'Brien reached on a fielders choice. After
Megan Scheidt singled to load the bases, Lard drew a walk to score Queenan.
Jordan Schultz would double scoring both O'Brien and Scheidt to make it 9-0 UWL.
A Schultz sacrifice fly and Joette Schultz single both drove in runs in the four inning as UWL led 11-0. Dickinson would score two runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning on one hit and three errors to make it 11-2. But that would be all the scoring as neither team threatened in the fifth inning.
As a team, UWL finished with 11 hits and nine walks. Lard finished 1-for-3 with three walks, three runs scored and three RBIs while Schultz was 1-for-3 with three RBIs.
Elise Weinzierl (3-3) earned the win on the mound for the Eagles allowing two runs on two hits while striking out five in four innings of work.
Laila Gwathrney led the Red Devils going 2-for-2 in the loss. Abby Kohan suffered the loss for Dickinson going 1.2 innings and allowing five runs on five hits and three walks.
Against Webster, UWL took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning as Lard led off with a double and scored on a double by
Jordyn McCormack. McCormack then advanced to third on a single by Schultz and scored when Bosch reached on a fielders choice. The Gorlocks would tie it up at 2-2 in the fourth inning as they scored two runs on four hits.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Gorlocks took a 3-2 lead on a Madi Stichling RBI single in the top of the fifth inning. McCormack would lead of the Eagles half of the fifth inning with her second homerun of the season to tie the score at 3-3. Schultz then singled and scored on a double by
Marissa Pease. O'Brien then gave UWL a 5-3 lead with a single that scored Kassa who pinch ran for Pease. McCormack homered to start the sixth inning for the final run of the game.
Another double digit hit game for the Eagles as they finished with ten hits. McCormack led the Eagles going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs scored and two homeruns. O'Brien finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk while Pease was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Madi Lee (1-0) earned the win for the Eagles coming on in relief allowing one run on two hits in one inning of work. Weinzierl (2) picked up the save for the Eagles pitching the final two innings and not giving up a hit while striking out two.
Stichling led the Gorlocks offensively as she finished 2-for-2 with an RBI. Cheyenne Dickens suffered the loss for Webster as she allowed four runs on six hits and two walks in four innings of work.
After an off day on Wednesday, the Eagles will return to action on Thursday, March 14 when they play Concordia University Wisconsin and Sul Ross State University (Texas).
