Box Score 2 Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball split a pair of games on day two of the Tucson Invitational Sunday, earning a 6-4 victory over Webster University (Mo.) before falling, 8-1, to Central College (Iowa). The Eagles are now 4-4 on the season.
UWL scored three runs in the top of the first inning in the win over Webster (Mo.).
Abbey Bosch had a two-run triple to get the scoring started and scored on a
Jordan Schultz single to make it 3-0. Bosch doubled with one out in the top of the third and scored on a Schultz' triple to make it 4-0.
Madi O'Brien followed with a fielder's choice to give UWL a 5-0 advantage.
Webster (Mo.) cut the lead to 5-3 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Kaley Adzick and Reese Waggoner both drew bases-loaded walks and Emma Bovaconti had a run-scoring single to make it a two-run game. UWL got one of the runs back in the top of the sixth with
Megan Scheidt scored on a Gorloks' error. Webster (Mo.) scored in the bottom of the seventh on a UWL error, but the Gorloks left the bases-loaded to end the game.
UWL finished with 10 hits in the game as Schultz went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Bosch 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Nicole Zoellner went 2-for-2.
Elise Weinzierl earned the win for the Eagles, allowing eight hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out six batters in 4.1 innings.
Madi Lee picked up the save, pitching 2.2 innings, allowing two hits, one unearned run and four walks with four strikeouts.
Adzick took the loss for Webster (Mo.), pitching 3.0 innings, allowing six hits, five runs and two walks while striking out three. The Gorloks also finished with 10 hits with Jaelin Holdaway going 3-for-4.
Central (Iowa) scored once in the top of the second and three times in the top of the third to take a 4-0 lead over UWL. Megan Stuhr had a two-run home run in the third. The Dutch added two in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 7-0 lead. The Eagles got their run in the bottom of the sixth as
Kyra Lard walked and scored on a
Jordyn McCormack double. Central (Iowa) added one more run in the seventh.
Ally Eden suffered the loss for UWL, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing five hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out one. The Eagles had three hits in the game with McCormack finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Syndi Husiman earned the victory, going 5.0 innings, allowing two hits with six strikeouts. The Dutch finished with 10 hits as Megan Doty was 3-for-4.
UWL returns to action Monday, March 13 facing Rochester Institute of Technology (N.Y.) at 9 a.m. (Mountain) and Coe College (Iowa) at 11 a.m. (Mountain).
