Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team opened its 2023 home schedule with a 21-3 victory over Wartburg College (Iowa) Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 1-1 on the season while the Knights drop to 1-3.

UWL scored the first seven goals of the game, including a pair from
Lauren Schwartz to start the game.
MacKenzie Crouse scored first for the Eagles with 13:45 on the clock.
Britta Nelson gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the tenth minute while Schwartz scored in the ninth minute. It was
Abigail Steigauf give the Eagles a 4-0 lead before Schwartz scored her second goal of the period to put UWL up 5-0 (5:02).
Olivia Gscheidmeier scored a free position goal in the fourth minute. After a Wartburg penalty gave the Eagles a player advantage,
Ava Schiltz put UWL up 7-0 with 3:03 left in the first period. Wartburg would get on the scoreboard with a goal from Beka Gershenoff in the second minute.
Megan Maloney became the seventh Eagle to score in the first period as UWL led 8-1 going into the second quarter. Schiltz assisted Maloney on the goal.
UWL outscored Wartburg 4-0 in the second quarter as they got goals from Schiltz (7:10), Crouse (6:49),
Kaley Hendrick (2:43) and Maloney (00:44).
Alyssa Bailey assisted Schiltz on her goal while
Kiersten Pelletier recorded assists on Crouse and Hendrick goals. UWL led 12-1 at halftime.
Gscheidmeier scored 00:13 into the second half to give the Eagles a 13-1. Wartburg's Gershenoff scored her second goal of the game in the 13th minute. Crouse (11:34) and Gscheidmeier (7:08) both scored their third goals of the game to put UWL up 15-2. Pelletier assisted on Gscheidmeier's goal. Steigauf finished the scoring in the third quarter on an assist from
Grace Willmott with 5:43 left.
Lauren Schwartz scored three goals on Saturday.
UWL would score five goals in the final period with goals from Schiltz, Willmott, Schwartz, Nelson, and Steigauf. Willmott recorded an assist on Steigauf's goal. Gershenoff scored the Knights lone goal in the fourth quarter.
UWL finished with 42 shots in the game, including 26 in the first half. Schiltz, Steigauf, Crouse, Schwartz and Gscheidmeier each recorded three goals to lead UWL. Nelson and Maloney each added two goals.
Emily Hageman earned the win in goal, recording four saves.
Wartburg finished with ten shots and got three goals from Gershenoff. Alyson Hasner recorded seven saves.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, March 15 when they travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to play Calvin University at 7:00 pm.
