West Salem, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country won the 29th Annual Tori Neubauer Invitational Saturday at Maple Grove Venues, LLC. The Eagles captured their 13th Neubauer title in school history and sixth in the last nine years.
UWL, 11th in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III rankings, won Saturday's crown with 27 team points. St. Olaf College (Minn.) ranked 12th in this week's national poll, finished second with 146 points followed by Ripon College (Wis.) third with 159, Paradise Valley Community College (Ariz.) and Bethel University (Minn.) tied for fifth with 176.
Northern Michigan University was sixth (185) with Luther College (Iowa) seventh (191), Lawrence University (Wis.) eighth (201), The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) ninth (204) and Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) 10th (240). A total of 20 teams competed.
The Eagles had four of the top-six finishers on Saturday with
Maddie Hannan second (22:38.1 on the 6,000-meter course),
Katelyn Chadwick fourth (22:45.8),
Maddy Vantassel fifth (22:50.9) and
Madelynn McIntyre sixth (22:58.9). UWL's
Gwen Hinz was the fifth UWL runner to place in the top-10, finishing 10th overall (23:09.5).

It is Hannan's third straight second-place finish. Chadwick records her third top-12 finish at the Neubauer Invitational after placing 12th in 2021 and seventh last season. Vantassel has her third career top-13 individual showing with a 13th-place finish in 2021 and sixth-place in 2022. It is McIntyre's third top-19 finish. Along with being sixth this year, she finished eighth in 2021 and 19th a year ago.

Deyanneira Colon Maldonado of Aurora University (Ill.) took the individual title Saturday (22:16.4). A total of 298 runners completed the race.
Neubauer won two NCAA Division III cross country titles (1982, 1983) and placed sixth at the 1981 Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) Championships. She also won a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) titles in cross country (1982, 1983). Neubauer placed fifth at the league championships in 1981. She was selected to the All-WIAC Team in 2011 and named to the WIAC Hall of Fame in 2015.
UWL returns to action Friday, October 20 at the Luther College (Iowa) Dual. The Eagles travel to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships Saturday, October 28 at Prescott (Wis.) High School.
