Geneva, Ohio - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team placed fourth at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships Saturday at SPIRE Institute. The Eagles, led by head coach
Josh Buchholtz, finished with 32.0 team points.
It is UWL's 32nd top-10 finish at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, including 28th in the top-four. It is the team's best finish since capturing the 2017 national title at SPIRE Institute. The Eagles have won an NCAA III record 15 (1988, 1991-93, 1997, 2001-04, 2006-07, 2013, 2015-17) outdoor national titles.
UWL also has an NCAA Division III record 18 (1987-88, 1991-94, 1997, 2001-06, 2008-09, 2013-14, 2017) indoor titles.
Sam Blaskowski
UW-Eau Claire won this year's national title with 73.0 points. John Carroll University (Ohio) was second with 48.0 and Massachusetts Institute of Technology was third with 40.0. Wartburg College (Iowa) and Rowan University (N.J.) tied for fifth (30.0). The University of Mount Union (Ohio) was seventh (25.0) with Bethel University (Minn.) eighth (24.0), Carthage College (Wis.) ninth (23.0) and UW-Oshkosh 10th (22.0). A total of 80 teams scored points.
UWL's
Sam Blaskowski captured the national title in the 100-meter dash (10.40) Saturday, becoming the first sprinter in school history to win the championship. It is UWL's 60th individual national crown (including relays) in school history.
Blaskowski earned his second individual All-America award of the day with a fourth-place finish (20.97) in the 200-meter dash finals.
The Eagles' 4x100-meter relay of
Jordan Montgomery, Blaskowski,
Justin Kotarak and
Kaleb Schuster placed second Saturday with a time of 40.59. Seeded eighth in the final, UWL finished with a time of 40.582 while Benedictine University (Ill.) won the national title with a time of 40.581.
Blaskowski earned his first career outdoor All-America honors at this year's championships, securing four overall. Along with three accolades on Saturday, he placed third in the long jump on Thursday.
Montgomery, Kotarak and Schuster picked up their first career outdoor All-America honor on Saturday.
Michael Madoch finished 10th (3:49.63) in Saturday's 1,500-meter run final.
In Saturday's field events, UWL's
William Cady placed 15th (46-11) in the triple while
Logan Larson was 15th (15-3) in the pole vault. The Eagles'
Aiden Williams finished 20th (155-3) in the hammer throw.
