La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track and field team captured the 11-team Ashton May Invitational Saturday night at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
UWL totaled 180 team points while Winona State University (Minn.) was second with 137 points). UW-Eau Claire placed third with 84 points, UW-Stout fourth with 81 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 70.
The Eagles recorded four first-place finishes with two on the track and two in the field events. The 4x400 relay team of
Emma Lawrence,
Mara Schroeder,
Katie Banie and
Greta Koehler finished first with a time of 3:55.45 while
Maddy Vantassel won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 11:17.00.
Jessica Stelzner won the long jump with a mark of 18-5 1/4 while
Samantha Barrett won the triple jump with a mark of 39-5 1/4.
Lawrence was UWL's top finisher in the 100-meter hurdles with a second-place finish (14.35) while
Hannah Zenkovich was fourth (14.58). Joining Vantassel in the top-three in the 3,000 meter steeplechase was
Julia Anderson placing third (11:46.44). In the 100-meter dash,
Emily Dawidowich placed second (12.434) while Banie was second (2:14.77) and
Maddie Hannan third (2:15.55) in the 800-meter run.Â
Ellie Jillson finished fourth (1:00.61) in the 400-meter dash.
In Saturday's field events,
Ashley O'Connell was the Eagles' top finisher in the pole vault with a second-place showing (11-2 1/2).  Joining Stelzner in the top-four of the long jump was Barrett who placed fourth (18-0 1/2).Â
Miah Keller finished second (38-6 3/4) behind Barrett in the triple jump.
Skye Digman recorded three top-three finishes,placing second in the shot put (44-11 3/4) and third in the discus throw (139-8) and hammer throw (157-6).
Gabby Johnson finished second in the javelin throw (124-3).

The meet is named for former assistant women's track & field coach Ashton May, who passed away September 16, 2012 after a traffic accident north of Adams, Minnesota. She completed her second season as an assistant coach with the Eagles in 2011-12. May earned her degree from UWL in 2010 in elementary education and was a math and social studies teacher at Holmen (Wis.) Middle School. May will be inducted into the UWL Wall of Fame this fall.
A four-year track & field letter winner for the Eagles, she earned 10 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-America awards, including second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump at the 2010 outdoor championships. May was also second in the long jump at the 2010 indoor national championships.
