Box Score Chicago, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team improved to 5-4 on the season with a 23-8 win at Illinois Institute of Technology Tuesday night at Stuart Field. The Scarlet Hawks drop to 1-7 on the year.
UWL set a single-game school record with its 23 goals in Tuesday's win. The Eagles scored 20 goals in a victory (20-4) over Clarke University (Iowa) on March 8 of this year and 20 in a win (20-10) over Wartburg College (Iowa) on March 13, 2021.
Megan Feeney scored six goals.
Lauren Schwartz started the scoring Tuesday with 14:25 remaining in the first quarter to give UWL a 1-0 lead. After IIT tied the game with 13:25 left, UWL scored the next six goals for a 7-1 lead.
Hanna Harshman and Mackenzie Crouse each scored twice for the Eagles while
Megan Feeney and
Hannah Gronowski also scored. Feeney's goal off a Harshman assist with 11:20 left gave UWL a 2-1 lead.
The Scarlet Hawks cut it to 7-2 with 1:44 left in the first quarter, but
Abigail Steigauf scored for the Eagles with 1:02 remaining to give UWL an 8-2 lead after the opening quarter.
UWL took a 11-2 lead in the second quarter with goals from Feeny,
Kiersten Pelletier and Schwartz. IIT cut it to 11-3, but Feeney,
Nicole Jernander and
Abigail Franta scored for the Eagles to make it 14-3 at halftime.
Crouse scored a pair of goals in the third quarter while Feeny and
Britta Nelson also tallied goals to give UWL a 18-6 lead after three quarters.
Feeney opened the fourth quarter with two goals with Jernander, Gronowski and
Savannah Allen also scoring in the period.
Nicole Jernander had a pair of goals.
UWL finished with 42 shots, including 32 on goal. Feeney totaled seven shots while also leading the Eagles with six goals. She also had one assist. Crouse totaled four goals and one assist on five shots while Jernander, Gronowski, Harshman and Schwartz each had two goals. Harshman finished with a team-leading three assists while Pelletier had two. Steigauf had a team-hihg nine ground balls.
Abigale Furlano and
Emily Hageman each had three saves for UWL with each playing one half.
IIT totaled with 22 shots with 14 on goals. Shanie Scoles led the Scarlet Hawks with four goals and 11 shots, including seven on goal. She also had a team-high eight ground balls. Caitlin Davitt finished with nine saves.
UWL returns to action Friday, April 15 at Augsburg University (Minn.) at 4 p.m.
