Box Score Leesburg, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team earned a pair of shutout victories Monday, improving to 6-3 on the season. The Eagles opened the day with a 6-0 win over Framingham State University (Mass.) before 9-0 victory (5 innings) over Lasell University (Mass.).
UWL took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in its victory over Framingham State (Mass.).
Jordyn McCormack singled with one out and advanced to second on a
Kendra Leis' single. McCormack then scored with two outs after a Framingham State (Mass.) throwing error with the first run of the game. The Eagles made it 3-0 with two runs in the fifth on
Emily Knight's two-run home run scoring Leis who had reached on an error.
Emily Lyman scored on a Framingham State (Mass.) error in the top of the sixth to give UWL a 4-0 advantage. The Eagles added two runs in the seventh. Leis singled to start the inning and advanced to second on a passed ball and then scored on
Hailey Jibben's single to make it 5-0.
Ellie Yaeger's sacrifice fly knocked in Jibben with the final run of the game.
Elise Weinzierl earned the win, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three.
Remington Stark pitched the seventh inning, recording three strikeouts. The Eagles finished with eight hits as Leis went 3-for-4 with two runs and a double. Knight had two RBI.
Versus Lasell (Mass.),
Ally Eden earned the complete-game victory. She went 5.0 innings, allowing four hits while striking out six.
UWL took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. Eden singled and scored on
Kyra Lard's two-run home run. McCormack followed with a double and scored on Jibben's two-out double to make it 3-0. The Eagles added six runs in the fourth inning on Lard's two-run single,
Hailey Pitzl's two-run double and Yaeger's run-scoring single. UWL had eight hits in the inning.
Eight of nine starters had a hit for UWL as the Eagles finished with 13 hits overall. Lard, McCormack, Leis, Jibben and Eden each had two hits. Lard totaled four RBI while Jibben and Pitzl each had two. Lard, McCormack and Eden scored twice.
UWL returns to action Tuesday, March 15, facing Clarkson University (N.Y.) at 10 a.m. (Central) and Stockton University (N.J.) at 12:15 p.m. (Central).
