NCAA Division III Indoor Championships Website
Winston-Salem, N.C. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track and field team is tied for third-place after the first day of competition at the 2022 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championships Friday at JDL Fast Track. The Eagles have 19.0 team points. Ithaca College (N.Y.) leads with 24 points while Loras College (Iowa) is second with 21. Johns Hopkins University (Md.) is tied for third with UWL with 19 points.
A total of 31 teams have scored points.
Skylar White
UWL's
Hannah Zenkovich earned a pair of NCAA III All-America honors Friday, including winning the national title in the pentathlon with a school record 3,774 points. The first student-athlete in UWL history to capture the NCAA Division III crown in the pentathlon, Zenkovich broke her own record of 3,741 points set at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships February 25-26.
Zenkovich also earned NCAA III All-America honors in the long jump Friday, placing sixth (18-5). It is the first two career indoor NCAA III All-America awards for Zenkovich.
The Eagles'
Skylar White also earned NCAA III All-America honors in the pentathlon Friday, finishing eighth overall with 3,360 points. It is White's first career NCAA III All-America honor.
Zenkovich and White are the fourth and fifth student-athletes in school history to earn All-America accolades in the pentathlon. Jamie Scott placed eighth in 2009, Jena Weigel finished third in 2013 and
Amanda Wiebke placed seventh in 2019. The pentathlon includes the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800-meter run.
Ashley O'Connell
Ashley O'Connell earned her first career All-America honors with a seventh-place finish in the pole vault (12-3 1/2) on Friday.
UWL's distance medley relay of
Maddie Hannan,
Brooke McDowell,
Claire Koenecke and
Emma Malooly earned NCAA III All-America honors with a sixth-place finish (11:47.11). It is the first career All-America for all four student-athletes.
In other field event finishes on Friday,
Skye Digman was 11th (54-9 1/4) in the weight throw while
Jessica Stelzner placed 16th (17-2 3/4) in the long jump.
On the track in preliminary action, UWL's
Emma Lawrence advanced to Saturday's final in the 60-meter hurdles after winning her preliminary heat (8.66). McDowell failed to advance to the finals (9.12).
Emily Dawidowich did not advance to Saturday's 200-meter dash final after competing in Friday's preliminaries (25.56).
The Eagles' 4x400-meter relay of
Amber Johnson,
Mara Schroeder,
Katie Banie and Lawrence advanced to Saturday's final with a qualifying time of 3:51.10 on Friday.
The national championships return after being canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 public health threat.
The UWL women's squad captured its first NCAA Division III Indoor title in 2015 in Winston-Salem. The Eagles have finished runner-up five times (1993, 1999, 2001, 2009, 2014) since the NCAA began sponsoring the indoor championships in 1985. UWL has crowned 12 individual or relay champions and 229 NCAA III Indoor All-America honors in school history.
