Blaskowski Earns All-America Honors in Long Jump

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track and field team is tied for 27th after the first day of action at the 2022 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championships Friday night at JDL Fast Track. The Eagles have 2.0 team points. John Carroll University (Ohio) leads with 15.0 points while UW-Whitewater is second with 13.0 and Ithaca College (N.Y.) third with 12.0

The Eagles' Sam Blaskowski earned his first career NCAA Division III All-America honor with a seventh-place finish in the long jump (23-8). 

Aiden Williams placed 16th (56-7 1/4) in the weight throw Friday. Logan Larson and Tommy Knoche failed to clear a height in Friday's pole vault. 

On the track, UWL's Ethan Gregg placed 12th (14:33.17) in the 5,000-meter run Friday.

In preliminary track action, Blaskowski advanced to Saturday's finals in the 60 (6.74) and 200-meter dash (21.84). He won his heat in the 60-meter dash. Michael Madoch advanced to Saturday's mile run final after running 4:11.26 in the preliminaries. 

UWL's 4x400-meter relay of Payton Flood, Addison Hill, Sam Mrochek and Caden Pearce advanced to the final with a time of 3:20.31 in Friday's preliminaries. 

Carson Reilly failed to advance to the 60-meter hurdles final (8.60). 

The national championships return after being canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 public health threat. 

The UWL men have won an NCAA Division III record 18 indoor titles, including 11 of the last 18.  The Eagles has a nation-leading 33 national championships overall (18 indoor, 15 outdoor).  UWL has not finished lower than fifth at the NCAA III Indoor Championships since 1985.  UWL has earned 380 indoor All-American honors, the most in the nation. The Eagles have crowned an NCAA Division III record 38 individual indoor champions.
