Men's Track & Field Leads WIAC Championships

Platteville, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track and field team is in first-place after the first day of action at the 2022 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championship (presented by Culver's) hosted by UW-Platteville in Williams Fieldhouse. UWL has 72.5 points after day one with UW-Oshkosh second with 62 and UW-Eau Claire third with 58.5.

UW-Stout is fourth (41) followed by UW-Stout (22), UW-Platteville (10), UW-Stevens Point (6) and UW-River Falls (1). 

UWL's Sam Blaskowski captured the conference long jump (24-6 1/2) title Friday with Andrew Hermes fifth (22-7) and William Cady seventh (22-6 1/4). Blaskowski is the first UWL student-athlete to win the event since Jacob Teunas in 2019.

On the track, Michael Madoch won the mile run (4:15.48) while Tyler Kisting placed fifth (4:17.54). Madoch is the first runner in UWL history to win the mile run. The conference started the mile run at the league championships in 2005. 

Other top finishers in the field events Friday included Logan Larson second (15-10 1/2), Tommy Knoche sixth (15-4 3/4) and JT Zell eighth (14-10 3/4) in the pole vault. Bryce Sitko placed seventh (48-0 1/2) in the shot put.

Ethan Gregg finished second (14:35.60) in the 5,000-meter run with Isaac Wegner fourth (14:41.20), Parker Huhn seventh (15:05.35) and Corey Fairchild eighth (15:07.07). UWL's Addison Hill finished third (49.67) and Payton Flood eighth (49.97) in the 400-meter dash.

In the distance medley relay, Christopher Wolfe, Thomas Blumer, Trent Curry and Elias Ritzke finished third (10:20.76). 

In track preliminaries, UWL's Carson Reilly (8.34) advanced to Saturday's finals in the 60-meter hurdles. Blaskowski (6.70) and Spencer Reichart (6.89) advanced in the 60-meter dash.

After four events in the heptathlon, Joseph Jenson is in 10th-place (2,175 points).  The final three events will be held Saturday.
