Box Score Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 65-50 at UW-Oshkosh Monday night in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Second Round (presented by Culver's). The Eagles finish their season at 14-12 while the Titans improve to 19-5 and advance to the tournament semifinals Wednesday, February 23.
UWL was making its sixth straight appearance in the WIAC Tournament under head coach
Karen Middleton. The Eagles advanced to the tournament semifinals the first five years under Middleton.Â
UWL finished 14-12 this season.
UW-Oshkosh, winners of 17 straight at home, never trailed Monday, racing out to a 9-2 lead on a Leah Porath three-pointer. UWL used a 9-2 run of its own to force an 11-11 tie with 2:10 remaining in the opening quarter on
Paige Schumann's three-point basket. The Titans led, 16-13, after the first quarter.
Schumann's layup with 5:03 left in the second quarter cut the lead to 19-16, but UW-Oshkosh went on a 13-4 run to take a 32-20 halftime advantage.
The Titans took their largest lead of the game in the third quarter at 50-30 with 3:19 remaining, but the Eagles scored the next seven points to cut the deficit to 50-37 on
Kailee Meeker's free throw with 1:17 left. A pair of Julia Silloway free throws gave UW-Oshkosh a 52-37 lead after 30 minutes of play.
UWL could get no closer than 13 points in the final quarter at 61-48 with 2:41 remaining on a
Casandra Warmsley layup.Â
UWL shot 40.0% from the field Monday, including 20.0% (three-of-15) from three-point range, and 64.7% (11-of-17) at the free throw line. Schumann led the Eagles with 14 points while Meeker andÂ
Kyah Steiner each finished with nine. Meeker,
Carly Coulthart and
Lexie Higgins led UWL with four rebounds each.Â
UW-Oshkosh, the three-time defending conference tournament champion, shot 47.9% from the field, including 48.0% (12-of-25) from three-point range. The Titans shot 70.0% (seven-of-10) at the line. Jenna Jorgensen led UW-Oshkosh with 14 points off the bench for UW-Oshkosh while Porath finished with 13 points and Nikki Arneson 12. Kennedy Osterman finished with a game-high six rebounds.Â
