New York, NY. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team magical season comes to an end as they fall to #1 New York University 72-47 on Saturday night in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Quarterfinals.

NCAA Tournament History: UWL was making their first ever appearance NCAA III Quarterfinals. UWL is now 9-7 all-time in the NCAA III tournament. New York University has now won 91 consecutive games including the last three NCAA III National Championships. Their win streak is the second longest all-time in all levels of NCAA basketball.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
- Leading 5-4, New York University hit back-to-back three-point plays to take an 11-4 lead. A put back lay-up by Molly Janke would pull the Eagles to within 11-10 with 2:04 left in the opening period. The Violets would then score six of the final eight points to lead 17-12 at the end of the first quarter.
- New York University would open the second quarter on a 15-2 run to extend their lead to 32-14 with 5:15 remaining in the half. The Eagles would score six unanswered but the Violets scored the final three points of the half to lead 38-20 at halftime.
- The Violets would take a 47-24 lead on a layup before the Eagles got a layup from Jenna Welsch and Lindsey Knuth along with a three-point play by Malia Nelson and a free throw from Madisyn Kilboten to cut the Eagles deficit to 47-32 (4:57). Two free throws by New York's Olivia Lagao would put the Violets up 56-36 but Nelson would hit a shot on the Eagles final possession of the third quarter to trail 56-38.
- The Eagles would not get any closer than 18 (63-45) in the second half.

- As a team, the Eagles finished 22-of-58 (37.9%) from the floor including zero-of-eight (0.00%) from the three-point line. UWL was also three-of-10 (30.0%) from the free throw line.
- Kilboten and Welsch led the Eagles with 10 points while Nelson finished with nine points.
- Molly Janke led the Eagles with 10 rebounds to go along with six points and three assists.
- New York University shot 26-of-59 (44.1%) from the floor including 11-of-26 (42.3%) from the three-point line. The Violets also shot nine-of-16 (56.3%) from the free throw line.
- Brooke Batchelor led the Violets with 22 points while Zahra Alexander added 19 points off the bench.
