Box Score Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team concluded its 2021-22 regular season with a 74-60 win at UW-Stout Wednesday night in Johnson Fieldhouse. The Eagles improve to 13-11 overall and 5-8 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blue Devils drop to 13-10 overall and 8-5 in the conference.
The game was tied three times in the first half, including 6-6, when
Emma Gamoke gave UWL an 8-6 lead on a jumper with 4:58 left. The Eagles led, 10-9, after the first quarter.
Amanda Giesen's layup for UW-Stout cut UWL's lead to 16-15 with 5:40 remaining in the second quarter when Gamoke and
Alivia Arnebeck hit back-to-back three-pointers to give UWL a 22-15 lead. Allison Letcher's three-point basket cut the deficit to 22-18, but the Eagles went on an 8-0 run to lead 30-18. Gamoke and
Paige Schumann each hit a three-point field goal and
Kat Fitzgerald's layup made it a 12-point game. UWL took a 33-20 halftime lead, outscoring UW-Stout, 23-11 in the second period.
Kyah Steiner had eight points, five assists and four blocks.
UWL opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 40-20 on Gamoke's three-pointer and four points from Fitzgerald. UW-Stout cut it to 11 points in the quarter, including 45-34, on a Reid Sorensen free throw with 1:46 left, but Gamoke hit back-to-back three-pointers and
Alana Gilles delivered a layup to give UWL a 53-34 lead after three quarters.
UW-Stout scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 53-43, but UWL went on a 12-0 run to take a 65-43 advantage on a
Lexie Higgins layup with 4:14 left. The Blue Devils could get no closer than 12 points the rest of the game.
UWL shot 47.4% from the field, including 52.4% (11-of-21) from three-point range, and 75.0% (nine-of-12) at the line. Gamoke led the Eagles with 29 points, going 10-of-15 from the field, including seven-of-nine from three-point range. She was two-of-two at the free throw line.
Carly Coulthart finished with nine points and team-high six rebounds Wednesday while Fitzgerald and
Kyah Steiner each had eight points. Steiner added a team-high five assists and four blocks.
UW-Stout shot 38.9% from the field, including 41.7% (five-of-seven) from three-point range, and 56.5% (13-of-23) at the free throw line. Giesen led the Blue Devils with 18 points and nine rebounds, finishing eight-of-11 from the field. Sorenson added 10 points.
UWL returns to action in the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's). Game date, time and opponent will be announced Thursday, February 17.
