Northfield, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country placed second at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III North Regional title Saturday afternoon at the St. Olaf College (Minn.) Cross Country Trails. The Eagles finished with 64 team points while Carleton College (Minn.) won the team title with 41.
Maddie Hannan led the Eagles with a fourth-place finish.
By virtue of its first and second-place finishes, Carleton (Minn.) and UWL advance to the NCAA Division III Championships scheduled for Saturday, November 19 in Lansing, Michigan.
St. Olaf, Minn. placed third (66 points) in Saturday's NCAA III Regional while UW-Eau Claire was fourth (125) followed by UW-Stevens Point (217), College of Saint Benedict, Minn. (226), UW-Oshkosh (255), UW-Stout (255), Bethel University, Minn. (296) and Ripon College, Wis. (308) to round-out the top-10. A total of 34 teams competed.
UWL's
Maddie Hannan placed fourth overall with a time of 22:11.52 on the 6,000-meter course. The Eagles'
Jenna Lovejoy finished 11th (22:34.12),
Julia Anderson 13th (22:38.82) and
Katelyn Chadwick 15th (22:41.69).
Maddy Vantassel was 21st (22:49.28) while
Kimberly Carviou finished 32nd (23:06.83) and
Charlotte Mueller 47th (23:40.66).
Fiona Smith of St. Benedict (Minn.) won the individual title (20:52.39). A total of 229 runners finished the race. The top-35 runners earn All-Region honors.
UWL returns to action Saturday, November 19 at the NCAA III Championships at Forest Akers Golf Course in Lansing, Michigan starting at 11 a.m.
