West Salem, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country won the 28th Annual Tori Neubauer Invitational Saturday morning at Maple Grove Venues, LLC. The Eagles captured their 12th Neubauer title in school history and fifth in the last eight years.
Maddie Hannan placed second.
UWL, ninth in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III rankings, won Saturday's crown with 32 team points. The College of St. Benedict (Minn.) was second with 122 followed by UW-Oshkosh third with 167, Bethel University (Minn.) fourth with 186 and Wheaton College (Ill.) fifth with 198.
UW-Whitewater was sixth (206) with St. Olaf College (Minn.) seventh (220), Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) eighth (272), Aurora University (Ill.) ninth (286) and Viterbo University (Wis.) 10th (286). A total of 30 teams competed.
The Eagles had four of the top-seven finishers on Saturday with
Maddie Hannan placing second overall with a time of 22:02.4 on the 6,000-meter course. UWL's
Julia Anderson was fifth (22:23.1),
Maddy Vantassel sixth (22:23.5) and
Katelyn Chadwick seventh (22:23.8).

Fiona Smith of St. Benedict (Minn.) took the individual title Saturday (20:58.5). A total of 364 runners completed the race.
Neubauer won two NCAA Division III cross country titles (1982, 1983) and placed sixth at the 1981 Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) Championships. She also won a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) titles in cross country (1982, 1983). Neubauer placed fifth at the league championships in 1981. She was selected to the All-WIAC Team in 2011 and named to the WIAC Hall of Fame in 2015.
UWL returns to action Friday, October 21 at the Luther College (Iowa) Dual. The Eagles host the WIAC Championships Saturday, October 29 at Maple Grove Venues, LLC.
