Amundson Named to D3soccer.com All-America Third Team

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse senior midfielder Sophie Amundson of Owatonna, Minn. (H.S.) has been voted to the 2021 D3soccer.com National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-America Third Team, the organization announced. She is one of 11 players selected to the All-America Third Team. 

Eleven student-athletes were each named to the D3soccer.com All-America First and Second Team.

It is Amundson's second career All-America recognition after being named to the 2021 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-America Third Team. She is the lone player from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) to earn All-America honors this season. 

She is the second player in school history to earn D3soccer.com All-America honors after Margaret Harrings was selected to the 2018 Third Team. Amundson is the fourth player in school history to earn United Soccer Coaches All-America honors, joining Harrings (2017 Second Team; 2018 First Team), Megan Carroll (2017 Third Team) and Maya Schmitt (2018 Third Team).  

Amundson was named to the 2021 United Soccer Coaches Region IX Team.  She was selected to the 2021 All-WIAC Team, her second career honor after being named to the 2019 squad.  

Selected the 2021 WIAC Offensive Player of the Year, Amundson started 23 games this season.  She is the second player in school history to be named the WIAC Offensive Player of the Year, joining Harrings who earned the honor in 2017 and 2018.  Amundson led UWL in goals (12), assists (7), points (31), shots (53), shots on goal (31) and game-winning goals (6) this year.  Her 31 points are tied for seventh in single-season school history while Amundson's 12 goals and seven assists are both tied for eighth.

She led the WIAC in points and game-winning goals while being tied for first in goals. Amundson also tied for second in the league in assists while finishing fifth in shots and shots on goal. 

During the regular season, Amundson recorded the game-winning goals versus St. Norbert College (Wis.), Carthage College (Wis.), UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater. Amundson had the game-winning goals in a pair of NCAA Division III Championship victories for UWL, including over Wartburg College (Iowa) in the first round and St. Catherine University (Minn.) in the second round. She had three games this season with two goals, coming versus Carthage (Wis.), UW-Eau Claire and UW-Whitewater.  Amundson was two-for-two in penalty kicks, coming against UW-Eau Claire and UW-Whitewater. 

UWL finished 16-4-4 overall and 6-1 in the WIAC under head coach Jason Murphy.  The Eagles advanced to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals for the second time in school history (2017).
