Box Score River Falls, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 61-54 at UW-River Falls Friday night in Don Page Arena. The Eagles drop to 1-3 overall and 1-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Falcons improve to 1-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
UWL earned a 69-49 home victory over UW-River Falls February 10.
The game was tied, 8-8, when UW-River Falls scored the next five points for a 13-8 lead with 3:05 left in the first quarter on Haley DeSouza's three-pointer. UWL trailed 15-10, but a
Shayley Vesel three-point field goal and
Gabby Ritchier jumper forced a 15-15 tied after the first quarters.
UW-River Falls opened the second quarter on a 19-4 run to lead 34-19 after a Jenna Zeman three-pointer. The Falcons led, 38-23, at halftime.
DeSouza's three-pointer with 8:14 remaining in the third quarter gave UW-River Falls its largest lead of the game 46-25. UWL cut the deficit to 54-45 with 5:54 left in the fourth quarter on
Casandra Warmsley's two free throws, but the Eagles could get no closer than the final margin of seven points the rest of the contest.
UWL shot 34.4% from the field, including 13.3% (two-of-15) from three-point range, and 53.3% (eight-of-15) at the line.
Alana Gilles led the Eagles with 12 points off the bench while adding three rebounds. Warmsley finished with 10 points off the bench.
Kyah Steiner led UWL with eight rebounds.
UW-River Falls shot 34.0% from the field, including 33.3% (nine-of-27) from three-point range, and 66.7% (16-of-24) at the line. Colie Justice led the Falcons with 13 points while Zeman finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, February 17 hosting UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
