La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team is set to travel to UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday, November 2 in the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (Presented by Culver's). Match time is 7 p.m. in Kolf Sports Center. The Eagles enter the tournament as the fifth-seed while the Titans are the fourth-seed.
UWL is 20-10 overall after finishing 4-3 in WIAC play while UW-Oshkosh is 18-11 overall and went 4-3 in the conference.
UWL is making its 29th all-time appearance in the WIAC Championships, winning the tournament crown in 2003 and 2017. The Eagles are 28-31 in tournament play. UW-Oshkosh is making its 33rd appearance in the league championships, capturing the title four times (1990, 1991, 1994, 2008). The Titans are 37-36 in the league tournament.
This will be the 14th all-time meeting between the teams in the WIAC Championship with UWL leading, 9-4. The Titans earned a 3-1 win over the Eagles in the first round of the 2018 tournament.
UWL leads the all-time series, 55-30, with UW-Oshkosh. The Eagles earned a 3-2 (25-22, 25-19, 17-25, 22-25, 15-11) victory over the Titans September 22 in La Crosse.
Emma Lawrence led UWL with 20 kills while
Megan Adams finished with 23 assists and
Jackie Oetterer 17. The Eagles hit .157 as a team. Adams led UWL with 17 digs with
Sophie Quelle finishing with 12 and Lawrence 10.
Riley Kindt led UW-Oshkosh with 12 kills with Kalli Mau finished with 32 assists. The Titans hit .124. Amelia Hust finished with a team-high 19 digs with Abby Fregien finishing with 15.
UWL, 5-6 on the road this season, is hitting .180 overall. Lawrence leads the team in kills (439, 4.18 per set) while
Brianne Korducki is second (203, 1.97) and
Liz Lansink third (146, 1.43). Adams leads the Eagles in assists (545, 5.29) while Oetterer is second (419, 4.15). Quelle leads in digs (375, 3.61) with Lawrence second (341, 3.25) and Adams third (272, 2.64). Lawrence recorded her 1,000th career kill earlier this season while Quelle registered her 1,000th career dig.
UW-Oshkosh, 5-1 at home, is hitting .176 overall. Carissa Sundholm leads the Titans in kills (314, 2.80) while Kindt is second (308, 2.63), Oliva Breunig third (148, 1.41) and Kate Nottoli fourth (146, 1.33). Mau leads the team in assists (612, 5.23) while Hust leads in digs (543, 4.76).
The winner of Tuesday's match advances to the WIAC Semifinals Thursday, November 4 at UW-Eau Claire (#1 seed). UW-Platteville (#6) plays at UW-Stevens Point (#3) in the other first round match-up Tuesday night. UW-Whitewater (#2) will host the winner of the UW-Platteville/UW-Stevens Point match in the other semifinal.
The WIAC Championship is set for Saturday, November 6 at the highest remaining seed. The winner of the championship earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
