St. Peter, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's tennis team completed action Sunday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Region and Midwest Open at Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). No team scores were recorded.
At the Midwest Open, UWL's
Lincoln Maher went 3-1 in singles play. He defeated Josh Marine of Macalester College (Minn.) in his opening match (6-4, 1-6, 10-4) before earning a win over Charles Young of Grinnell College (Iowa) in the second round (6-4, 5-7, 10-4). Maher then defeated Joe Schneider of Loras College (Iowa) in the third round (6-3, 6-2) before falling to Geoffrey Youngs of Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) in the round of 16 (6-2, 6-2).
The Eagles'
Alex Unger went 2-1 in singles at the Midwest Open, defeating Harry Hawbaker of Coe College (Iowa) in the first round (6-1, 6-4). He won by default over Adam Ryerse of the University of Northwestern (Minn.) in the second round before dropping his third round match to Mason Meyer of Saint John's University (Minn.) (6-4, 6-4).
JT Dillon/Unger went 0-1 in doubles.
In the ITA Midwest Regional,
Cole Contardi went 1-1 in singles while
Grant Counts and
Alex Moore each finished 0-1. Contardi defeated Tim Peters of Concordia University Wisconsin in the first round (6-4, 6-3) before falling to Matt Christensen of UW-Eau Claire in the second round (6-2, 6-3).
Moore/Counts went 1-1 in doubles with Contardi/Maher dropping their only match of the tournament. Moore/Counts defeated Ryerse/Jack Geurkink of Northwestern (Minn.) in their opening match (8-2) before dropping their second round match to ninth-seeded Yuv Kataraia/Aniketh Vipparala of Carleton College (Minn.) (8-3).
UWL returns to action Saturday, February 5 with a pair of matches facing Carleton (Minn.) and Coe (Iowa) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
