2020 UW-La Crosse Women's Cross Country Schedule
La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has announced its 2020 women's and men's cross country schedules. The Eagles open the season hosting the UWL Alumni/Intra-Squad Meet on Saturday, September 5 at Myrick Park in La Crosse.
UWL will host Winona State University (Minn.) on Friday, September 11 at Maple Grove Venues, LLC in West Salem.
Nine races are on the 2020 schedule, including hosting the Jim Drews and Tori Neubauer Invitationals at Ettrick Golf Club in Ettrick, Wisconsin on Saturday, October 17.
The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships are scheduled for Saturday, October 31 at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wisconsin. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Midwest Regional is Saturday, November 14 at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois and the NCAA Division III Championships is set for Saturday, November 21 at The LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.
"I really like the way this schedule lined up this year," said head coach
Derek Stanley. "We have a couple of fun, preparatory competitions early, a nice back-to-back test in the middle to practice for late-season and then we finish up as we have in past years."
Stanley starts his ninth season as UWL's head coach in 2020. The men's cross country team, winners of a league-best 35 WIAC championships, have captured the league title five times (2012-13, 2017-19) under Stanley. A total of 49 All-WIAC men's cross country honors have been earned under Stanley, including 14 first team selections and 24 second team choices. The Eagles had five runners in the top-10 at the 2012 league championships, four in the top-11 in 2013, six in the top-12 in 2017, four in the top-10 in 2018 and six in the top-11 in winning the WIAC title each year. Stanley was named the 2013 and 2017 WIAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year. UWL also earned the 2018 WIAC Coaching Staff of the Year Award.
The Eagles have recorded top-four finishes at the NCAA Division III Championships in five different seasons under Stanley, placing second in 2017, third in 2013, 2014 and 2018 and fourth in 2012. Eleven NCAA III All-America accolades have been earned under Stanley's tutelage.
The women's cross country squad has won three WIAC Championships under Stanley (2013-14, 2016) while also finishing second on five occasions (2012, 2015, 2017-19). A total of 50 All-WIAC cross country honors have been earned under Stanley, including 20 first team selections and 15 second team choices.
UWL placed sixth at the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships under Stanley, the team's best finish since a fourth-place showing in 2005. The Eagles were ninth at the 2018 NCAA III Championships, 12th in 2015, 13th in 2014 and 17th in 2017.
