Box Score Hanover, Ind.-The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's lacrosse team fell to Hanover College (Ind.) 14-7 Friday afternoon in the first of the Eagles' three game road series throughout Indiana. The Eagles drop to 0-2 on the season while the Panthers improve to 3-2.
Hanover (Ind.) would strike first as Emma Boomershine found the back of the net at 26:27 but a free position attempt at 22:34 from Gabriella Storin was good tying the game 1-1, this was Storin's first goal of the season. The Panther's would then go on a five goal run to lead 6-1 with 15:54 remaining in the first half. Anna Davis would score on a free position to bring UWL within four, her first of the day and second goal of the season. Storin would score again for the Eagles' on a free position shot heading into halftime trailing Hanover (Ind.) 8-3.Â
The Eagles went eight-for-10 on clear attempts and three-for-four on free positions in the first half, adding 15 ground balls and 16 shots while only allowing nine turnovers.Â
The Eagles' held the Panthers scoreless for the first four minutes of the second half until Laurel Atchinson would assist Bommershine for her fourth goal of the day at 26:04. ULW's Abigail Steigauf would answer back on a man-down goal at 24:55 for her first of the season then a minute later Davis would notch her second of the day on a free position shot. Hanover (Ind.) would score the next three goals until Davis got her third and fourth of the day unassisted at 11:49 and 3:38 remaining to end the scoring for both teams.Â
Ellen Coggio would end the day with eight saves and two ground balls playing the full 60 minutes.
The Eagles' out shot the Panthers 21-9 in the second half while also winning six-of-five draw controls. UWL had 21 ground balls and went 16-for-19 on clears.Â
Davis led the Eagles' with a team high 12 shots and four goals also adding four ground balls and one caused turnover. Storin added two goals while Steiguaf had one along with two ground balls and three draw controls. Valerie Johnson led with four draw controls while Mackenzie McCoy won two. Kaylee Keller and Savannah Allen led with three caused turnovers each, while Keller had four ground balls.Â
Hanover's (Ind.) Boomershine, Kinna Balasko and Milah Young led with four goals a piece while Young led with five draw controls. Julia Long earned the win in net for the Panthers with 19 saves and six ground balls.Â
UWL returns to action Saturday, March 7 at Earlham College (Ind.) at 11 a.m.
