Konkel and Vian Compete in One-Meter at NCAA III Regional

NCAA Division III Central Regional Diving Championships

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse juniors Elizabeth Konkel and Sydney Vian completed action in the one-meter competition at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Central Regional Diving Championships Friday at Denison University's Trumbull Aquatics Center in Granville, Ohio.

Konkel placed 14th overall (354.10 points) while Vian was 18th (337.55). A total of 22 women competed in the event. Elizabeth Cron of the University of Chicago (Ill.) took the overall title (458.25).

The three-meter competition will be held Saturday, February 29 at 2:15 p.m. (Central).

Denison (Ohio) is one of four regional qualifying meets, joining Trinity University (Texas), Springfield College (Mass.) and Ithaca College (N.Y.).

Konkel and Vian are making their second career appearance in the regional.  Konkel placed 16th (365.65 points) in the three-meter competition and 25th (337.35) in the one-meter at last season's NCAA III Regional Championships while Vian finished 25th (331.00) in three-meter and 27th (306.25) in one-meter.   

LogoVian was named the Women's Diver of the Meet at the 2020 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships February 13-15. She captured the one (415.50) and three-meter (429.55) titles, becoming the seventh diver in school history to be selected the Women's Diver of the Meet. She joins Sarah Thayer (2005), Amanda Medendorp (2006-08), Rachel LaValley (2009-11), Jordan Anderson (2015), Kayley Alioto (2017-18) and Konkel (2019). Vian also won the WIAC title in the three-meter in 2018 while finishing third in the one-meter. She placed fourth in the three-meter and eighth in the one-meter at the 2017 league championships.

Konkel earned the 2019 WIAC Women's Diver of the Meet after winning the one-meter competition and finishing second in the three-meter. She was second (398.95) in the one-meter and third (396.45) in the three-meter at this season's WIAC Championships after placing ninth in both events in 2017. 

The NCAA Division III Championships are scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 through Saturday, March 21 at the Greensboro Aquatics Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
