Brown Deer, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team is in first-place after the second day of action at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Friday night at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center. The Eagles, striving for their ninth straight league title, have 530.5 points while UW-Eau Claire is second in the team standings with 516.0.
UW-Whitewater is in third-place (390.5) followed by UW-Stevens Point (360.0) and UW-Oshkosh (242.0).
The Eagles' Ellie Szczupakiewicz captured the 100-yard butterfly (58.30) on Friday while Sarina Le was fifth (59.83) and Maria Vaudreuil ninth (59.01). It is the second straight 100-yard butterfly title for Szczupakiewicz.
Vaudreuil took the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.52) Friday with Kaylie Svacina second (1:07.00) and Mikala Leppla seventh (1:09.43). It s Vaudreuil's second league title in the 100-yard breaststroke after winning in 2018.
UWL captured both relay events Friday as Amanda Wciorka, Leppla, Le and Vaudreuil won the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.87) while Szczupakiewicz, Victoria Campbell, Emily Boettger, and Vaudreuil earned the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:49.86).
The Eagles' Sydney Vian captured the one-meter diving title (403.80 points) while Elizabeth Konkel placed second (390.30).
In other individual finishes, UWL took five of the top-10 spots in the 100-yard backstroke. Lilly Larsen was third (58.53), Szczupakiewicz fourth (59.09), Sophia Benson sixth (59.60), Wciorka seventh (59.70) and Hannah Calhoon 10th (1:01.07).
Boettger was third in 200-yard freestyle (1:56.14)
Action concludes Saturday, February 15 at the WIAC Championships with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m.
