La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team captured the Ashton May Invitational Saturday night at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles totaled 157.33 team points while UW-Stevens Point was second with 117.83. A total of 10 teams competed.
The meet is named for former assistant women's track & field coach
Ashton May, who passed away September 17, 2012 after a traffic accident north of Adams, Minnesota. She completed her second season as an assistant coach with the Eagles in 2011-12. May earned her degree from UWL in 2010 in elementary education and was a math and social studies teacher at Holmen (Wis.) Middle School.
A four-year track & field letter winner for the Eagles, she earned 10 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-America awards, including second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump at the 2010 outdoor championships. May was also second in the long jump at the 2010 indoor national championships.
UWL had a pair of individual champions on Saturday as
Samuel Sadowski won the long jump (23-4) and
Seth Holden the 100-meter dash (10.70).

Along with Sadowski winning the long jump,
Jacob Teunas was third (22-7) and
Cameron Sorenson fifth (21-9 1/2) for the Eagles. UWL had four of the top-six finishers in the pole vault as
Kaleb Schuster was third (14-7 1/4),
Isaac Lock fourth (14-7 1/4), Tommy Knoche fifth (14-7 1/4) and
Keagen Stonewerth sixth (14-7 1/4).
The Eagles'
Justin Donkin placed second (189-10) and
Christian Morzinski third (183-9) in the hammer throw while
Kyle Pulvermacher finished third (154-0) in the discus throw. Donkin was also foufth (163-2) in the javelin throw while teammate
Alec Morrison was sixth (145-0).
Holden was also second (21.82) in the 200-meter dash along with winning the 100-meter dash.
James Hoesley finished third (21.96) in the 200-meter dash and fourth (10.97) in the 100-meter dash while
Troy DeBruin finished fourth (22.18) in the 200-meter dash and fifth (11.08) in the 100-meter dash. The Eagles'
Justin Kotarak was sixth (22.53) in the 200-meter dash.
UWL's
Henry Klein placed second (1:56.31) in the 800-meter run with
Charlie Handrick third (54.69) in the 400-meter hurdles.
Chris Pahnke was third (9:40.17) and
Joshua Christensen sixth (9:46.05) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Joshua Desorcy finished fourth (48.91) and
Jake Sullivan sixth (49.20) in the 400-meter dash while
Mitchell Maegaard placed fifth (3:55.49) in the 1,500-meter run and
Dillon Murman sixth (15.67) in the 110-meter hurdles.
Klein, Connor Denman, Sullivan and Desorcy were second (3:25.08) in the 4x400-meter relay.
UWL returns to action Friday, April 12 at the UW-Platteville Invitational.
