UWL Competes at Drake Relays; Win Seven Events at SMU

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team competed in a pair of meets Thursday, including the Drake Relays and the Saint Mary's University (Minn.) Open. No team scores were recorded.

At the Drake Relays, Zachary Shoemaker-Allen placed second (8:55.43) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while Joshua Schraeder was 14th (15:03.82) in the 5,000-meter run. Shoemaker-Allen's time ranks second in school history. Brett Altergott ran 8:52.55 in 1998.

At the Saint Mary's (Minn.) Open, UWL won seven titles, including six individually. Collin Meyer won the 200 (21.88) and 400 (49.62) meter dashes while Seth Holden took the 100-meter dash (10.65) and Conner Denman the 800-meter run (1:59.26). In the field events, Cameron Sorenson took the long jump (21-11 3/4) while Andrew Jarrett captured the hammer throw (187-4). 

UWL also won the 4x100-meter relay (41.08) with Troy DeBruin, Holden, James Hoesley and Justin Kotarak. 

UWL had seven of the top-eight finishers in the 100-meter dash Thursday. Along with Holden taking the title (10.65), Hoesley was second (10.85), DeBruin third (10.85), Joel Shelp fourth (11.03), Kotarak sixth (11.17), Robert Willison seventh (11.21) and Matthew Foster eighth (11.30). 

Shelp was also fourth (22.27) and Willison fifth (22.29) in the 200-meter dash while Max Goulet finished third (50.94) and Matt Nichols seventh (53.21) in the 400-meter dash. 

In the hurdles, Dillon Murman was second (15.11) and Ben Jones third (16.24) in the 110-meter hurdles while Matt Prendergast finished second (58.90) and Skyler Theisen placed fourth (1:02.02) in the 400-meter hurdles.

Sorenson was also second in the javelin throw (149-7) and third in the triple jump (40-11 3/4) Thursday. Alec Morrison was fifth in the javelin throw (137-6) and Josh McGrath finished fifth in the long jump (19-6). 

UWL had five of the top-eight finishers in the hammer throw. Along with Jarrett winning (187-4), Christian Morzinski finished second (179-2), Justin Donkin fourth (177-4), Michael Lampman seventh (136-7) and Tanner Rahman eighth (126-0). 

Lampman was also fourth in the discus throw (145-9) and seventh in the shot put (44-3 1/2) while Rahman placed fourth in the shot put (45-8) and fifth in the discus throw (144-10). Jarrett was seventh in the discus throw (141-5). 

Kaleb Schuster placed third (14-5 1/2) and Isaac Lock fourth (13-5 3/4) in the pole vault while Matt Haynes finished fourth in the high jump (5-11 1/2). 

UWL returns to action Friday, April 26 at the Drake Relays, competing in the 4x100-meter relay.
