Craig and Gamoke Named to All-WIAC Team

Madison, Wis. – University of Wisconsin-La Crosse junior guard Dani Craig of Coralville, Iowa (Iowa City West) and freshman guard Emma Gamoke of Onalaska (H.S.) have been selected to the 2018-19 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Basketball First Team in a vote by the league coaches. It marks Craig's second career honor after being named to the 2017-18 All-WIAC Honorable Mention Team. 

Sophomore center Caitlin O'Brien of Kimball, Minn. (H.S.) was named to the 2018-19 All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Craig started all 27 games this season, leading UWL in scoring (12.4) and assists (2.6 per game). She was second for the Eagles in three-point field goals made (52) and attempted (133) and rebounds (4.9). 

Scoring in double figures in 19 games this year, Craig had a career-high 24 points at UW-Platteville on February 2. She went eight-of-13 from the field versus the Poineers, including seven-of-11 from three-point range. The seven 3-pointers set a single-game school record until Gamoke had nine at UW-Eau Claire on February 9. Craig had at least three 3-point field goals in seven different games and at least one in 24 of 27 contests overall.

Craig had at least three assists in 13 games, including a season-high seven versus Saint Mary's University (Minn.) on November 17. She ranks third in the WIAC in three-point shooting (39.1%), fourth in three-point field goals made per game (1.9), seventh in assists (2.6) and ninth in scoring (12.4). Craig is also 12th in the league in field goal shooting (41.6%) and 13th in rebounding (4.9).

Gamoke played in 27 games this year, including 23 starts, while finishing second on the team in scoring (12.2) and leading UWL in three-point field goals made (53) and attempted (158). She also led the Eagles in steals (49) and finished fourth in assists (33) and blocks (17).

She scored in double figures in 20 contests, including the first 12 games of the season. Gamoke had a season-high 34 points at UW-Eau Claire on February 9, setting a single-game school record with nine 3-point field goals on 13 attempts. She finished 10-of-15 from the field overall and five-of-six at the free throw line. Gamoke's nine 3-pointer field goals tied the WIAC single-game record held by Rachel Mueggenborg of UW-Eau Claire and Stacie Robey of UW-River Falls. Her 34 points against UW-Eau Claire is tied for fourth in single-game school history. Kassie Robinson (vs. UW-Stevens Point on February 4, 2012) and Jill Murray (vs. UW-Stevens Point on December 13, 2010) each scored a school record 36 points. Karen Mueller finished with 35 points vs. UW-Oshkosh on January 14, 1984 while Mary Hansen had 34 against the University of Wisconsin on January 25, 1978. 

Recording at least two steals in 13 games, Gamoke had a season-high six against Saint Mary's (Minn.) on November 17. She ranks third in the WIAC in three-point field goals made per game (2.0), seventh in steals (1.8), eighth in three-point shooting (33.5%), 11th in scoring (12.2) and tied for 11th in blocks (0.6).   

O'Brien was named to the 2018-19 All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team, chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  It includes one member from each school. She played in 25 games this year with three starts while shooting 63.2% (12-of-19) from the field. O'Brien had a season-high four points in four different games and season-high three rebounds in three different contests. 

UWL finished 22-5 overall and 10-4 in the WIAC this season. The 22 wins are the most since finishing 22-7 in 1987-88. The Eagles advanced to the WIAC Championships Semifinals for the third straight year and fifth time overall. UWL's 10 league wins were the most since finishing 12-4 in 2010-11.
