Hannah Ottevaere
UWL, led by head coach
David Taebel, competed in its first collegiate meet since adding the sport in March 2018. The addition of women's golf was the first sport expansion for the university since women's soccer in 1992. It is the 20th varsity sport for the intercollegiate athletics department. Women's golf was a varsity sport at UWL from 1970-71 through 1982-83. It was suspended at the conclusion of the 1982-83 season and became a club sport.
Sarah Faanes
Hannah Ottevaere led UWL with a 16th-place finish in this weekend's invitational, finishing with a two-day total of 176 (91-85). The Eagles'
Sarah Faanes tied for 17th at 177 (85-92) while
Chloe Volden tied for 22nd at 181 (94-87).
Leah Sindberg tied for 43rd at 191 (94-97) with
Maggie Lang finishing 47th overall at 194 (94-100).
"I was very pleased with our performance at the Oshkosh Invite," said Taebel. "The team rose to the occasion and played great in what was the first competition in years for most of them. It was fun seeing the competitive fire get burning again for them as they got to experience competitive rounds of golf.
"The chance to measure their games against quality competition shows our team that they can compete at this level," added Taebel. "There is still some rust that shows up in some facets of their games so we know what we need to work on as we move into the rest of our season."
UWL returns to action Sunday, September 9 at the Viterbo University (Wis.) Invitational at the La Crosse Country Club with action starting at 11 a.m.
