Box Score 2 Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader with Buena Vista University (Iowa) Saturday at the Tucson Invitational. Buena Vista (Iowa) earned a 14-5 win in the opener and 9-0 in the nightcap. Both games were five innings. UWL is now 5-9 on the season while Buena Vista (Iowa) is 10-2.
Buena Vista (Iowa) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first in Saturday's opener before UWL came back in the bottom of the inning with three runs.
Brittany Baldwin tripled to start the inning and scored on
Sydney Murphy's single to make it 2-1. After a pair of outs, UWL's
Haley Radewan hit a two-run home run to give the Eagles a 3-2 advantage.
The Beavers regained the lead in the top of the second with a pair of runs on Carlee Guyett's two-out double. Buena Vista (Iowa) took a 8-3 lead with four runs in the third. Taylor Frain had a two-run single.
UWL cut the lead to 8-5 in the bottom of the third when
Sabrina Scardamaglia delivered a two-out double scoring
Mia Schmidtke and Radewan. The Beavers scored six times in the top of the fourth. Autumn Boland had a two-run single.
UWL had five hits in the game with Radewan going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Caitlyn Hughes (2-5) suffered the loss for the Eagles, going 2.2 innings, allowing nine hits, eight runs and one walk while striking out two.
Moriah Guyett earned the complete-game win for Buena Vista (Iowa). She pitched 5.0 innings, allowing five hits, five runs and three walks with three strikeouts. The Beavers had 15 hits in the game with Carlee Guyett and Boland each finishing 3-for-4 with two runs.
UWL was held to one hit in the second game, a
Grace Mindrup double in the second inning. Buena Vista (Iowa) scored once in the bottom of the first, three times in the second and third innings and two in the fourth.
Marissa Promes earned the win, going 5.0 innings, allowing one hit while striking out three. The Beavers had 12 hits with Kate Lesmeister finishign 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Maddie Muelken (2-1) took the loss for UWL, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing 10 hits, seven runs (six earned) and three walks with one strikeout.
UWL wraps up its spring trip Sunday, March 18 with a doubleheader versus Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) starting at 11 a.m. (Central).
