Box Score 1 La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Wartburg College (Iowa) Saturday afternoon in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The win moves the Eagles to 18-2-2 on the season while the Knights end their season at 13-6-1.

Making their third overall trip and second straight appearance (2015, 2017, 2018) in the national championships, UWL now faces the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) Sunday, November 11 at 1 p.m. in the second round. St. Thomas (Minn.) advanced to the second round by defeating Knox College (Iowa), 1-0. in their opening round match Saturday in La Crosse.
UWL took an early 1-0 lead Saturday in a game played with temperatures below 20 degrees on a
Natalie Herzog goal at 2:53 off a
Kaitlyn Villars' assist. It was Herzog's fifth goal of the season and Villars 12th assist of the season. The score remained 1-0 at the half as UWL had a 6-4 edge in shots.
The Eagles would take a 2-0 lead at 71:32 on a goal by
Margaret Harings.
Hannah Beech took an Eagles' corner kick and found the head of Harings for the assist. It was Harings' 11th goal of the season and Beech's second assist of the year.
Wartburg (Iowa) had several scoring chances in the closing minutes but UWL's defense would prevail.
UWL finished the match with a 15-13 shot advantage, although Wartburg (Iowa) did have a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Villars led the Eagles with four shots while
Alex Cording had three. Emily Fontana led the Knights with five shots. including two on goal.
Lily Brock
Lily Brock played all 90:00 minutes in goal for the Eagles and recorded her eighth shutout of the season as she stopped all five shots she faced. Brock moves into a tie for first in career shutouts (17.0) with
Stacey Miller (1992-95).
Marissa Lopez played every minute in goal for Wartburg (Iowa), finishing with two saves.
Currently on an 18-game unbeaten streak (17-0-1), UWL has not lost since a 4-0 home defeat to St. Thomas (Minn.) September 9 in La Crosse. The Tommies leads the all-time series, 8-3-3.
