Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team, ranked 12th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top-25 Poll this week, earned a 37-10 victory at UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon in Kolf Sports Center. The Eagles improve to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans drop to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
UWL now leads the all-time series, 38-11, with UW-Oshkosh. The Eagles have won the last 28 meetings with the Titans.
UWL won eight of the 10 matches Saturday, including three by fall.
Nelson Baker opened the dual with a win by fall (4:14) over UW-Oshkosh's Damien McCray at 125-pounds. The Eagles'
Sawyer Sarbacker followed with a win by major decision (15-3) over Anthony Senthavisouk at 133 to give UWL a 10-6 lead.
Reid Johnson won by decision (12-7) over Wesam Alabed at 141-pounds followed by
Spencer Nevills win by technical fall (17-0) against Corey Knudsen at 149-pounds for a 18-0 team advantage.
UW-Oshkosh got on the scoreboard at 157-pounds as Mark Choinski won by major decision (11-3) over UWL's
Michael Murnane at 157-pounds. Choinski is currently ranked second in the NWCA. UWL then won the next four duals.
Mitch Hertel won by major decision (17-8) over Nate Arquinego at 165-pounds,
Sawyer Massie won by fall (4:04) over Husman Alabed at 174,
Sean O'Neil won by decision (4-0) over Colten Cashmore at 184 and
Wesley Schultz won by fall (4:01) over Jordan Lemcke at 197. O'Neil is ranked sixth in the NWCA.
The Titans' Michael Dunlap won by forfeit at 285-pounds to finish the scoring.
UWL returns to action Thursday, January 18 at eighth-ranked UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
