UWL Competes at North Central (Ill.) Invite; Stenger Wins Title

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team competed in the 54th Annual North Central College (Ill.) Invitational Saturday.  The Eagles finished in fourth-place with 66.0 points, with all four wrestlers who participated placing in the top-three of their weight classes.

Wabash College (Ind.) finished in first-place with 167.0 points with Olivet College (Mich.) second (92.5 points) and host North Central (Ill.) third (73.0 points). A total of 15 teams competed.
    
UWL's Josh Stenger won the 125-pound flight Saturday, going 4-0 on the day.  Stenger defeated Aj Belden of Wabash (Ind.) by decision (3-1) in the first round, and won by technical fall (16-1) over Caleb Poche of the University of Dubuque (Iowa) in the quarterfinal round.  In the semi-finals, he bested Alma College's (Mich.) Aaron Parr-Besemer by major decision (14-5), and beat James Murphy of Thomas More College (Ky.) in the finals with a 14-5 major decision. 
 
At 149-pounds, UWL's Kal Gerber placed second with a 4-1 record, while Grant Zamin was second at 157-pounds, also going 4-1.  Hayden Schlough placed third at 141-pounds, compiling a 5-1 record on Saturday. 

UWL returns to action January 4-5 at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
