Rochester, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team opened its 2017-18 season at the Rochester Community & Technical College (Minn.) Open Saturday. No team scores were recorded.
Zach Villarreal captured the 125-pound title with a 4-0 record, earning two wins by fall, one by technical and one by major decision. He opened with a win by fall (3:49) over Lamont Wilson of Iowa Lakes Community College before a win by major decision (15-1) over Ethan Cota of Augustana College (S.D.) in the quarterfinals. Villarreal won by technicall fall (16-1) over Brian Maas of Iowa Lakes in the semifinals and won the title with a fall (:59) over Hasan Krigger of Iowa Lakes.
Five other wrestlers placed for UWL Saturday, including Josh Fiegel who finished third at 133-pounds with a 3-1 record. He earned one win by fall.
Grant Zamin was fourth at 157-pounds while
Spencer Nevills finished fifth at 149-pounds. Zamin went 2-2 while Nevills finished 5-1 with one win by fall. The Eagles'
Sawyer Sarbacker and
Jack Gille both finished eighth Saturday. Sarbacker placed eighth at 133-pounds with a 3-1 mark while Gille went 3-2 at 157-pounds. Both registered one win by fall.

Tristan Jenny (133) both finishing 2-2 while
Colton Ryan (149),
Sam Wenzel (149) and
Lee Fuller (184) finished 1-2.Â
