Luther College (Iowa) Results
Decorah, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team competed at the Luther College (Iowa) Open Saturday. No team scores were recorded, but the Eagles had eight wrestlers place in the two divisions of the meet.
UWL's Zach Villarreal captured the 125-pound title in the Silver Division with a 4-0 record. He won by fall (:55) over Noah Padilla of Wartburg College (Iowa) in his opening match before a win by fall (2:18) over Jared Hensley of Upper Iowa University in the quarterfinals. Villarreal then won by fall (2:09) over Devon Meeker of Coe College (Iowa) in the semifinals and captured the title with a win by technical fall (21-6) against Brock Henderson of Coe (Iowa).
The Eagles' Josh Fiegel (133) finished second in the Silver Division with a 3-1 record, earning two wins by fall. He won by fall (2:27) over Kyle Clough of Luther (Iowa) in his first match followed by a win by fall (1:28) over Brayden Dowding of Nebraska Wesleyan University in the quarterfinals. Fiegel won by decision (6-4) over teammate Tristan Jenny in the semifinals before dropping the first-place match by fall (6:25) to Parker Huss of Rochester Community & Technical College (Minn.).
Jenny (133) and Lee Fuller (184) each finished fourth in the Silver Division. Jenny went 2-2 with both wins by fall while Fuller finished 1-2. UWL's Spencer Hutchinson (141) placed sixth with a 3-2 record with one win by fall.
In the Elite Division, the Eagles' Wesley Schultz (197-pounds) placed fourth with a 2-2 record with one victory by fall. UWL's Spencer Nevills (149) and Michael Murnane (157) each finished fifth with Nevills going 3-1 and Murnane going 4-1.Â
In other Elite Division results, Riley Lull (125-pounds) and Logan Schlough (165) each went 1-2 while Thomas O'Brien (141), Kal Gerber (149), Aaron Sweeney (157) and Adam Gusky (197) finished 0-2.
In other Silver Division results, Sawyer Sarbacker (133-pounds) and Sam Wenzel (149) went 2-2 while Colton Ryan (157), Jacob Gille (157) and Chase Pomeroy (174) each finished 1-2. Sarbacker earned both of his wins by fall.
