Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 73-55 to 15th-ranked UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall on Senior Day. The Eagles drop to 7-14 overall and 1-9 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Warhawks improve to 17-4 overall and 6-4 in the conference. UW-Whitewater, ranked 15th on D3hoops.com, earned its ninth straight win over UWL with Saturday's victory.
The Eagles scored the first basket of the game on a
Elise DeNoyer layup, but the Warhawks went on a 15-2 run to lead 15-4 with 3:16 left in the first quarter. UWL used a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 17-10 after a pair of
MaKenzie Miller free throws with :59 remaining, but a Kate McKay jumper with :03 left gave UW-Whitewater a 19-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Warhawks scored five of the first seven points of the second quarter to lead 24-12 before baskets from
Cameron Chapin and
Rachel Atchison cut the lead to 24-16 with 6:07 left. UW-Whitewater took its largest lead of the first half of 15 points with a 11-4 run to lead 35-20. A Miller layup wiht :33 left cut UWL's halftime deficit to 35-22.
UWL could get no closer than 13 points in the second half at 37-24 with 8:51 left in the third quarter. UW-Whitewater led by as many as 26 points in the fourth quarter.
UWL shot 38.6% from the field Saturday, missing all six of its three-point attempts. The Eagles shot 78.6% (11-of-14) at the free throw line. Miller led UWL with 14 points while DeNoyer totaled 13. Miller and
Jenna Anderson each had a team-high six rebounds. Anderson (eight points), Chapin (six points) and
Maggi Bishop (six points, four rebounds) were honored for senior day at halftime.
UW-Whitewater shot 50.0% from the field, including 41.7% (five-of-12) from three-point range, and 75.0% (12-of-16) at the line. The Warhawks shot 60.9% (14-of-23) from the field in the second half. Abbie Reeves led UW-Whitewater with 23 points off the bench. Lisa Palmer finished with 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, February 10 hosting 18th-ranked UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
