Box Score Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 60-58 victory at UW-Stout Wednesday night in Johnson Fieldhouse. The Eagles improve to 7-13 overall and 1-8 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blue Devils drop to 8-12 overall and 2-7 in the conference.
UW-Stout scored the first seven points of the game, but UWL followed scoring the next 21 points to lead 21-7 with 1:41 left in the first quarter. The Blue Devils missed 13 straight shots from the field in the Eagles' run. UWL led 24-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Blue Devils cut the lead to 26-17 with 8:20 left in the second quarter on a Sarah Schoch three-point field goal, but six straight points for the Eagles made it 32-17 with 6:22 remaining. UWL led 42-28 at halftime.
UWL led 47-32 with 6:55 left in the third quarter on a
MaKenzie Miller layup before UW-Stout used a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 47-39 with 2:11 remaining. The Eagles led 53-45 at the end of the third quarter.
UW-Stout opened the fourth quarter on a 6-1 run to make it 54-51 and later trailed 57-55 with 2:12 remaining after a pair of Shannan Watkins free throws.
Maggi Bishop hit a pair of free throws for UWL to make it 59-55 with 1:11 left. Kyleigh Hebert made two free throws with :20 remaining to cut the lead to 59-57. After a UWL turnover, Hebert was fouled with :11 left. She made one-of-two free throws to cut the deficit to 59-58. UWL's
Elise DeNoyer was fouled with :08 left and converted one-of-two at the line for a 60-58 advantage. Hebert then missed a potential game-tying layup at the buzzer.
UWL shot 38.3% from the field, including 50.0% (four-of-eight) from three-point range, and 71.4% (10-of-14) at the free throw line. Miller led the Eagles with 17 points while
Sierra Watrud scored a career-high 14 points off the bench. Bishop finished with eight points and game-high 11 rebounds.
UW-Stout shot 32.8% from the field, including 19.0% (four-of-21) from three-point range, and 70.0% (14-of-20) at the line. Hebert and Schoch led the Blue Devils with 16 points each while Bailey Diersen finished with seven points off the bench.
UWL returns to action Saturday, February 6 hosting 15th-ranked UW-Whitewater at 3 p.m.
