Box Score Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 70-47 at 19th-ranked UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon in Berg Gymnasium. The Eagles finish their season at 7-18 overall and 1-13 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers improve to 19-6 overall and 10-4 in the conference. UW-Stevens Point hosts UW-Stout Tuesday, February 23 in the WIAC Championship First Round.
The game was tied four times in the first quarter, including 10-10, at the end of the quarter. UW-Stevens Point led 10-6 with 2:34 left when baskets from UWL's
Rachel Atchison and
MaKenzie Miller forced the tie.
UWL took its only lead of the game on a
Sierra Watrud three-point field goal with 8:08 left in the second quarter to give the Eagles a 15-14 advantage. UW-Stevens Point used a 12-4 run to take a 26-19 lead with 2:57 remaining in the first half. The Eagles cut the deficit to 28-24 with 1:40 left on a
Jenna Anderson layup, but layups from Mickey Roland and Payton Mix gave the Pointers a 32-24 halftime advantage.
UW-Stevens Point, ranked 19th on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, opened the second half on a 11-2 run to lead 43-26 with 5:25 remaining in the third quarter. UWL cut the lead to 48-36 with 1:07 left on an Anderson jumper, but UW-Stevens Point took a 52-36 lead at the end of the quarter. UWL could get no closer the rest of the game.
UWL shot 42.2% from the field, including 25.0% (two-of-eight) from three-point range, and 53.8% (seven-of-13) at the free throw line. Anderson and Miller led the Eagles with 10 points each while
Elise DeNoyer finished with nine and Atchison eight.
UW-Stevens Point shot 46.0% from the field, including 40.0% (four-of-10) from three-point range, and 71.4% (20-of-28) at the free throw line. Roland led the Pointers with 15 points while Joann Wolfenberg finsihed with 14 and Lauren Anklam 10.
