UW-La Crosse Earns Road Win at Bethany Lutheran

MaKenzie Miller finished with 24 points and career-high 17 rebounds Tuesday night.
Box Score Mankato, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team extended its winning streak to three games with a 65-48 victory at Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) Tuesday night in the Sports and Fitness Center.  The Eagles improve to 5-2 on the season while the Vikings drop to 2-4.  It is UWL's first three-game winning streak since the 2014-15 season.

UWL improves to 2-0 all-time versus Bethany Lutheran (Minn.), earning a 61-56 win in Wisconsin Dells during the 2014-15 season.

The Vikings took their only lead Tuesday night on the first basket of the game on a Anna Balcom layup.  The Eagles scored the next seven points and went on an 20-3 overall run to lead 20-5 with 1:36 remaining in the first quarter.  UWL led 20-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) used a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 20-14 with 9:34 left in second quarter.

After MaKenzie Miller's three-point play gave UWL a 23-14 advantage, Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) scored 11 of the next 14 points to cut the lead to 26-25 with 5:32 remaining on a Minnie Frederick three-point field goal.  UWL responded with a 12-2 run to end the half and led 38-27 at halftime. Alyssa Clemment scored five points and Delaney Schoenenberger four in the Eagles' run.

UWL opened the second half on a 15-8 run to lead 53-35 with 3:25 left in the third quarter on a Elise DeNoyer jumper.  The Vikings could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the game.

UWL shot 40.6% from the field Tuesday, including 23.5% (four-of-17) from three-point range, and 69.2% (nine-of-13) at the free throw line.  Miller recorded her first double-double of the season and 12th of her career with 24 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.  She scored a career-high 25 points versus Carroll University (Wis.) November 30, 2014 and had a previous career-high of 13 rebounds four other games.  Miller's 17 rebounds are the most for a UWL player since Danielle Frank totaled 19 versus UW-Oshkosh February 23, 2011.

She finished 10-of-17 from the field and four-of-four at the line while adding two assists, two blocks and one steal.

DeNoyer totaled 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists while Schoenenberger added 10 points. Clement finished with seven points, six rebounds, four assists and four blocks.

Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) shot 29.0% from the field, including 20.0% (four-of-20) from three-point range, and 57.1% (eight-of-14) at the line.  Haley Sandin and Frederick led the Vikings with 11 points each. Sandin added five steals and three assists while Frederick totaled five assists and four rebounds.  Brooke Henning scored eight points with five rebounds off the bench.

UWL returns to action Monday, December 12 at fifth-ranked the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) at 7 p.m.
