Soccer Team Drops WIAC Championship at UW-Whitewater

Box Score Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team fell 3-0 at UW-Whitewater in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (Presented by Culver's) Saturday night.  The Eagles drop to 14-5 overall while the Warhawks improve to 20-1. With the win, UW-Whitewater earns the league's automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championship. 

UWL will await word if it has earned an at-large bid to the national tournament with the field scheduled to be announced Monday, November 7 at 12:30 p.m.  The Eagles earned their first ever appearance in the NCAA III Championships in 2015.

UWL was making its third appearance in the WIAC Championship game Saturday and first since 1999.  The Eagles captured the tournament title with in 1996 with a 4-1 victory over UW-Stevens Point.

The game was scoreless at halftime as both teams totaled five shots.  UW-Whitewater, ranked sixth on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCCA) Top-25 Poll, took a 1-0 lead at 46:05 as Brianna Reid scored her 13th goal of the season.  Marie Lesperance recorded the assist.  UWL, ranked fifth in the NSCAA North Region, quickly responded with three shots in the next five minutes, including Margaret Harings hitting the post.

The Warhawks, also ranked first in the NSCAA North Region, made it 2-0 at 65:46 on Morgan Beaty's third goal of the season and 3-0 at 69:29 on Jordan Jackson's third goal of the year.  Both goals were unassisted.

UWL finished with 11 shots in the game, including five on goal.  Harings and Natalie Herzog each had three shots with two on goal.  UW-Whitewater totaled 16 shots with four on goal.  Reid finished with four shots.

Abbi Burke suffered the loss for UWL, dropping to 4-1 on the season. She had one save. Sara Klimisch improved to 15-0 on the season with five saves.
